Keg at Craft Clerko. It pours a clear mahogany with a small off-white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, rich smoke, maple-glazed ham, bacon frazzles, dried fruits and brown bread. The taste is bitter-sweet, brown bread, maple syrup, honey-glazed ham, wood, leather and fruit cake with a smooth, dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Great balance and depth of flavour. One of the best new offerings I’ve had from Thornbridge in quite a while.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear copper, thick off white head. Enticing smoky aroma, wood smoke, campfires. Taste is smoky, a deep orange note at the back, smoky finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Coach and Horses, Dronfield - Clear copper red body, frothy lacing white head. Nose is not as smoky as expected, more sweet than burnt wood smoke, with a fruitiness as an aside. Taste is smoky with a rich cake fruitiness about it, with a zingy kick at the end, and a slight boozy warmth as it goes down.

Keg at Craft, Islington, Easter Sunday 5th April 2015 Wonderfully sausagey nose, very authentic in that sense. Looks good as well, reddish hue to a dark amber crystal clear beer. The best of the Thornbridge beers that I’ve had over the last few days, it’s in excellent nick, it’s very close to what I think someone doing this style should be like. Good. A8 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.6

Keg at CPK - London. Pours clear amber-gold with a foamy, white head. Big lightly toasted malt aroma with some ripe fruits, peat, smoke. Medium sweet flavor with some nice hammy smoke, caramel, sugary fruits, rich bread. Medium bodiednwith average carbonation. Lightly sticky sweet on the finish with a bit of honey smoked ham, toffee, fruit, more rich bready malts. Solid.

Bright clear amber beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and mildly crisp. A light cream in the malts. Trace of bubblegum ester. Mild but sweet fruits. Fruity mild smoke. Touch of smoke kippers. Sweetish floralness before a smooth finish. Decent and certainly one of the better recent Thornbridge offerings.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Clear copper. Bubbly, white head, that doesn’t last. Toffee malts. Vine fruits. Savoury smoke, specifically smoked cheese. Taste is smoky sweet. Some fruity dryness. Creamy mouthfeel. Nicely rich. Finishes with a little bitter tang, and more of the smoky sweetness. I’m not normally a fan of smoked beers, but I could easily put a few of these away. Very nice.
