(Keg at Black Door, 20150426) The beer poured deep brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, smoke and a lot of butter. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, smoke, butter, more butter, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste had smoke, butter and bitterness. The brew had way too much diacetyl to be a good one.

Tap@ Black Door. Deep amber, thin white head. Woody, sweet malt, smoky aroma. Buttery feel to it. Flavor has sweetness, smoke, buttery notes, hops. Ok smoked beer, but the sweetness and buttery notes is disturbing.

Clear, orange-y beer with a thin filmy head and a very smokey aroma, which on top of the fruit has an almost bacon-like quality. Taste is surprisingly light. A bit of malt, some orange again and a smoky finish which lingers without being overpowering. Far too drinkable for 6%!

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark chestnut brown pour with a thin off white head, sweet toffee and light smoke aroma, taste is more apparent in taste not quite frazzles, but perhaps an own brand smokey bacon, toffee, some fruitiness, wasn’t looking forward to this I’m not a smoked fan but this was pleasant.

Cask at CBC St Giles, 14/04/15. Rich amber with a big old beige head that retains well. Nose is smoked malt, toffee, grain, candied fruit peel, grandads pipe remnants. Taste comprises smoked malt, caramel, toasted brown sugar, smoked gammon, earthy. Medium bodied, soft carbonation closes out donning a smoking jacket. Solid smoked effort, one of Thornbridges best new offerings for a while and likely the best smoked beer I’ve had on cask. Great balance.
