Bottle from Morrisons 180113
Golden amber, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma - Spicy earthy hops, hint of bubble gum, fruity pale malt, hedgerow, no skunk as in a brown bottle
Taste - Spicy earthy hops. some earthy yeast, dab of esters, caramel malts, soft toffee malts, unusual but good flavour as there are a fair amount of English hops, quite complex
Palate - Medium body, soft carb, fairly oily. Bitter quite dry earthy hop finish.
Overall - This is nothing like other IPAs as it uses English hops - no grapefruit or tropical fruits here (if you expected that you would be disappointed). Itโ€™s different from the norm and I thought it was pretty good as an ale

King Willliam IV. Thanks to Leighton for this one. Clear amber beer, residual white head. Light palate, smooth and semi dry. Sweet malts, bordering on syrupy. Papery. Tiny bit of English Hop slanted citrus. Smooth finish. In a world with many fine IPAs - this one is rubbish!

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours clear amber with a thick off-white head. The nose is caramel, melon, pear, banana, grain and sweet pale malt. The taste is grainy, straw, rather dry, banana, hay, some bitterness in there also, grass and sharp lemon with a crisp, dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad really for Sheps....

Bottle shared at King William IV, London during the Magic Rock event. Pours clear gold with a frothy, white head. Sugary caramel and bready malts on the nose. Medium sweet flavor rife with caramel and toffee, and further lightly toasted bread. Medium bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Medium sweet finish with more toasty bread, dry caramel, mellow pine. Very pleasant, if quite one-dimensional. Low alcohol presence, lots of sweet bready character. This beer of course is not an IPA; as an ESA, though, itโ€™s pretty alright.

Shepherd Neame impart their own brewing style on this pale ale and the result is a very healthy textured brew with a heavy bitter taste.
