Murphy's Law reversed! When you have an off spec beer you are left with two choices. Dump it or play with it. We at Nøgne Ø believe in seeing the possibilities and grasping the opportunities given. Our miscoloured Saison was put in fresh red wine barrels, and the flavours created we found irresistible. So we made more. This bottle contains a blend of our finest red wine barel aged Saison.

Pours hazy deep golden/orange with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, yeast, red wine and oak. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long red wine, yeasty and pepper finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. First batch. An unclear amber colored beer with a small dense off-white head. The aroma is quite vinous, with a touch it’d berries as well as the usual grass, pine cones and peppery hints. It’s rather dry on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation. Full body. There’s pine cones, grass, resin notes, pepper hints and bitterness in the flavor and a very nice impact from the barrels, with red wine, oak and a faint funky touch. Lasting finish. Really tasteful and pleasant this one. A beer to enjoy in your favorite chair. Rating: 8-3-8-4-16-3.9 150321

Bottle. Second batch as Saison Réserve 2.0, at Ølfestival, Nærbø.It’s an unclear, orange-colored beer with a small, dense, off-white head. It’s lightly funky on the nose, fruity and faintly piney, with some pineapple. There’s a tannin-ish wine touch to the mouthfeel, it’s dry and full-bodied with a nice carbonation level. Some alcohol notes and warmth, with flavors of tropical fruits, pineapple notes, some pine cones and a subtle and pleasant funkyness. Lasting finish. A quite lovely one, but I think I prefer the first batch anyway. 151017
