A clear dark brown ale with a thick moka head. In aroma, a sweet chocolate with light molassey note, herbal, licorice and vanilla. In mouth, a sweet caramel and butterscotch, with light coffeee notes, rather light bodied and simple. Bottle at Poechenellekelder, July 12 2011. 4.30 euros/330 ml bottle.

Huge, very dense cream-coloured head, uncannily stable over gorgeous ruby to chestnut beer. ’Thick’ sweet-salt nose, in fact, remarkably like Chinese Hoi-sin sauce, or aromas as soya-based plum sauce; generally fruity and sweet-spiced with a salty hint. Taste is a again a combination of sweetish fruit (plums again) and warm spices (cinnamon, allspice, five spices,...) The saltiness suggested in the nose reduced to some mineral to metallic flavour. Spiced bitterness too, as from the pure spicetastes. Faintly woody, dried fruit, brown candi sugar. Everything suggesting a rich palate, but that is actually nearly thin, too watery to my liking. Quite surprising and, indeed, original brew. Despite the thinnish mouthfeel, the balance is finally satisfying. One to be tried, certainly.

8/05/2011 33cl bottle @ home - BB: 9/2012 (2011-200)

Dark brown beer, pretty cloudy, some chunks settling at the bottom. Light beige head, falls down fast to a thin creamy layer on the surface. Aroma: caramel, dried fruits, bit of mocha. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity, sour, green apples, caramel, a hoppy bitter touch in the end. Aftertaste: more of that weird tartness, sour cherries, very little bit of mocha. Totally not what I was expecting. And not a big fan, but I give them credit for making such an unusual beer.

Bottled 33cl (HBF2011, BBE 2013)
Dark red-brown color, good creamy brownish head. Ginger spicey, dark malty, caramelly-raisiny aroma. Medium to full bodied. Caramelly, ginger/clove spicey flavor, some dark malts. Crisp carbonation. Quite fruity and spicey winter ale. Decent.

bouteille 33cl.
