“The Bavarian Purity Law” celebrated its 500th birthday in 2016. The “Herrnbräu Jubiläums-Sud” was first brewed especially for this purpose with a wort content of 12.8% using the classic one-mashing process. All raw materials used come from the region. As a result of an ancient recipe brewed with an extra high proportion of roasted and caramel malt, with the addition of aromatic Hallertau hops and a precisely controlled fermentation with fresh bottom-fermented Herrnbräu yeast, a dark beer with a strong color and a mild, pleasantly sweet and malty-spicy aroma is created.

Clear amber brown colour, good frothy beige head, mostly diminishing. Aroma roasted and sweet malt, caramel, dark fruits, molasses. Taste medium sweet and light malt bitter, malty, caramel, molasses, light chocolate. Medium body, watery to oily texture, malty sweetbitter aftertaste, sugary and earthy notes, too much molasses but okay dark kellerbier.

500ml can from an Advent Calendar and drank in California on 16th Dec 2019. Red hue to the brown body, slight haze too, the head was a light tanned affair that hung around fairly well. Malty molasses rule the nose and taste, caramel and toffee aromas/flavours with very little hop bitterness throughout.

16 ounce can. From the Advent calendar. Pours a dark amber color with a medium white head. A somewhat odd pungent fruity and caramel nose. Sweet, toast, some caramel, a sort of dark fruity element. Solid.

500 ml can from the Advent calendar. Aroma is caramel, toasty, nutty. Pours hazy brown with a one finger beige head with good retention. Taste is sweet and toasty, ending on a light acidity and light lingering bitterness. This is really tasty, especially for a style I'm not usually fond of.

Can from Jeremy. Dunkel, my ass! Pale golden with small frothy head. Sweet malty flavor and aroma. No signs of a dunkel at all, comes off like an exporrt lager. Seems skunky too.

500ml can. Pours a clear copper-gold with a medium, foamy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Mild, sweet aroma of toasted malt, caramel, bread and grain. Sweet flavour of toasted malt, caramel and grain with a slightly bitter herbal hop finish. Light body with a thin, watery texture and soft carbonation. Easy drinking, but off-style.
