The St. Paul Double is a strong, dark abbey beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle. Thanks to the dryhopping technique, which adds hops after fermentation, it has a rich and distinct sweet aroma of roasted malt. Full-bodied and a rich and complex flavour in a combination of sweet and bitter. In addition, the double has a soft, subtle aftertaste.

Bottle bought at the Achelse Kluis, where the Achel trappist ales are made. Dryish, caramelly dubbel with restrained fruity character and some roasted bitterness, bit cliché and a bit thin mouthfeel for the style, metallic too. But the bottle was very nice. Also tasted under the alias Sint-Truiden Markt.

0,33 glass bottle purchased in Rome. Pours a reddish dark brown, tick and ivory foamy head. Nose: light caramel notes, red fruits, little yeast. Mouth: light caramel malts predominance, little bitter finish and sad surprise...metallic notes :-( ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ceramic bottle shared at Beer Market Jaffa. 6% according to the importer’s label. Clear deep amber-brown with a big beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, dark fruits and a bit of dark bread notes. Sweetish flavor, caramelly, with some candy-ish character, fruitiness and a bit of bitterness in a drier finish. Medium-bodied. OK, quite clean.

Bottle. Pours clear dark copper brown with airy but stable light tan head. Clear aroma of fruit, malt and caramel. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, interspersed by bitter notes of hops, alcohol and metal. Creamy mouthfeel. Sweetish finish with a rough touch and mild, metallic hints. Warming alcohol presence. OK but would better without the metal.

Bottle on sale on rakuten. It poured a dark brown, almost black but had a fizzy white head. It is a sweet and sour double, with nice malty fruitiness.

Bouteille: Hazy, amber coloured, smaller persistent off-white head, sweet toasty-caramelly nose with delicate traces of chocolate; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied, not too soft; slightly lingering, slightly warming sweet-fruity and malty finish. Quite nice....

Sweetened honey taste. Light carbonation. Body is medium, tracing is pretty good - rocks the beer glass fractals. I taste caramel as well. BOttle at The Rhino.
