(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2011) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Brief, bubbly head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, raisins, prunes, red berries (raspberries?) and a slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness and a decent bitterness. Well balanced, tasty and quite nice.

Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green. It pours very dark brown-ruby, with a thin beige head. the nose is treacle, sticky dried fruit, golden syrup and cinnamon. The taste is roasted malt, toast, oak, chocolate, coffee, salt, meat, raisin, sultana, leather, tobacco and alcohol warmth, with a very long dry-toast finish. Full body and soft carbonation. Good.

Cask at the White Horse, during the Old Ale Festival. Pours clear, shiny ruby with a faint head. Decent hop aroma, some sweet bread, crackers. Medium sweet flavor, with fresh toast, grass, candy and toasty grain. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Faintly warming finish, sticky, quite bitter, more grass, some wood, toasted sugars. Not bad overall.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 14/11/2011. Reddish-amber with a decent, off-white head. Aroma of red berry fruit, caramel, cereal malts and a touch of citrus hop. Flavour had more fruit, biscuity malts and ended with a bitter finish with a touch of warming alcohol. Very enjoyable.
