An imperial stout first brewed in 2015 by Fyne Ales who collaborated with Brouwerij De Molen in the Netherlands. The response was so successful that this beer has been made a permanent addition to Fyne's range. Mills & Hills is a rich, malty stout with lots of treacle and chocolate characters. This complex combination of malts and hops creates a full flavoured beer which is perfect for cold, wintry nights.

(330ml bottle @ PiBar, Lausanne, Aug 11 2015) Pours black with a dense lingering dark tan head with spotty lace. Aroma sweet and rich with dark chocolate, molasses, dark fruit notes like fig and date, some sweet citrus, a bit of vanilla. Equally sweet, rich and unctuous in the mouth with lots of rich molasses/brown sugar/dark chocolate sweetness, dried dark fruits, citrus hints, toasted but not particularly ashy roast, liquorice. Finish has sweet cream, chocolate and fruit, roasted bitterness, a little vanilla but overall quite bright with citrus accents persisting. Full, smooth mouthfeel with low carbonation and no alcohol. Very balanced, though the sweetness verges on cloying at higher temperatures.

From tap. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan hesd. Aroma is toasted malty and light breadish. Roasted, dark malty, breadish and dark chocolate malty. Bitter, dry and roasted finish.

Bottle shared at the chriso Easter 2015 tasting - London. Cheers, C-Garvs! Pours oily black with a foamy beige head. The nose holds burnt cereal, light roast, chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with sugary dark malts, chocolate, scorched earthy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to conclude, with sticky dark sugars, raisins, ash. Not bad.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Rich, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, very rich, malty, chocolate, dark fruit and some liquorice, quite thick. Very good Imperial stout.

330ml bottle at home from my Secret Santa Clockk, many thanks. BB 02/2018. black color, small dark coffee-colored head. smells malty roasty, light sour, some smoke, citric, a bit liqueurish, some caramel, light molasses, bitter chocolate, dried boletus. nice smell. full body, rather obvious carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes malty roasted, lightly sour, light earthy notes, citric, light alcohol, light glueish, some pines, bitter chocolate, light peat. finishes with light sourness, light glue notes and nice roasted notes. good stuff, like the malt roast notes, just a tad too glueish / alcoholic on finish. definitly would drink again though.

Bottle. Black pour, brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, soy, licorice, coffee and cream. Taste is thick and has licorice, dark cacao, coffee, cream and a little vanilla. Thick body. Quite a good stout.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, dense beige-brown head. Aroma of liquorice, roasted malts, chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet, quite some liquorice, chocolate, roasted malts, bubble gum, earthy bitter finish. Medium bodied. Expected a bit more tbh.

Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate and tar. Boozy liquorice backdrop. Taste - molasses, black jack sweets, liquorice. Palate -full bodied with a rich dry but tangy middle section and a long dry tangy finish. Boozy all the way through. Overall - good imperial stout not leaning too much on chocolate notes.
