Thanks to my Secret Santa for this one! A large, creamy, light brown head tops this dark dense brown brew that shows a bit of red at the edges. Cherry fruit aroma with some smoke. The flavor has some roast malt that fades into a bitter finish. A bit thin. The other Kuhnhenns I have had have been much better than this one. I followed it with an Edmund Fitzgerald that had been in the fridge a few months and it didn’t come close.

Bottle pours a a very dark clear brown/black with some redish hues showning through. Very large fluffy light beige head. Aromas of dakr roasted barley and chocolate malts. Some candied sugar and other smokey swetness. Mild roasted flavors with a lively carbonation and a quite dry feel. Very littel bitter aftertaste. Just smaokey and mild.

Deep red body, thin off-white head. Rich, sweet chocolate (or Hershey’s) syrup aroma. Fruity, surprisingly tangy body with chocolate, a touch of cherry, and roasted malts. Quite tangy and a touch sour but no off-flavors that suggest infection. Other than that peculiarity, the beer is quite thin and light on flavor.

2004 draft. Finally back in the rotation after a long time in the works. Pours an inky blackish/brown, not altogether opaque with the light playing on the sides and revealing a dark, but layered color. Aroma of some hazelnuts, light chocolate and hints of cocoa. Touch of dry bitterness. Flavor is similar to the aroma. Like a dry stout in its body and mouthfeel, this one dosent overpower. The flavor is much better than the stout Kuhnhenn makes, with more malt to stick to your tongue and some decent lasting roastiness. Finishes with chocolate and of course much thinning, but it could be much worse. An easy sipping porter with no major flaws other than a bit too thin of body, but look at it as a traditional english porter, and this can be easily forgiven. 7/4/7/3/13
2004 draught Edinburgh yeast version Much improved both in flavor and body. Served side by side with the nitro version, I much preferred the CO2. Good roast, caramel and nut notes and the yeast provides some light fruity notes (light plums, blackberries, cherries). 7/4/8/4/16
