On tap at Imazato. Duchutes Black Butte Porter 5.4% deep cola black with roasty chocolate aroma. Med-light bodied with a raspy carbonation. The taste is chocolate bready oats. Very very solid stuff.

Tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Deep brown with billowy brown head. Taste is heavy chocolate with moderate bitterness. Very nice with restrained roast.

Lot of hype from them a few years ago.

12 Oz bottle poured. Part of my new year ratebeer resolution is to go back and rate all the beers I had a bunch before my rating days and give them the reviews they deserve. Especially the great ones. I have loved this beer for so long, it’s time I make it official. Dark brown pour with a thin fizz head. Caramel malt aroma. Flavor is mild milk chocolate, roasted malt and a mild nutty finish. Something about this beer. It’s a long time favorite of mine, and has to be one of the most refreshing porters around. Love this beer.

After having the Deschutes Black Butte XXVI, having this normal one. Pours a dark colour with ruby highlights. Beige head, good retention and lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, caramel, nuts and coffee. The taste is slightly nutty with roasted malts, hops and hints of berries. Quite a nice refreshing, tasting porter. Much less rich than the one I had before.

A deep dark porter with a thick creamy lacing brown head. In aroma, light fruity chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, faint licorice, OK. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coffee grind, musty character, light vanilla and licorice, very nice and smooth. Bottle bb 03-26-12.

There sadly isn’t much of an aroma on this thing and it only has modest head on top of a black ruby body. Flavour is a weak affair with only hints of barley and a medium finish. Just meh after some other more spectacular beers.
