Bottle 33 cl. BB 04/2024. Dark brown with garnet color, yellowish foam. Delicate aroma: fortified sweet wine (mixture of muscatel and vermouth), light spice, floral nectar, sweetness, a few herbs. Taste: light sweetness, nectar, slightly spicy wine, caramel and dark malt, heather honey, a bit herbal, soft bitterness, excellent balance, warming, drop of old Scotch whisky. Great beer.

Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy deep ruby pour, no head. Minimal lacing. Interesting nose, malty, lots of caramel. Liquor and oak. Subtle smoke in the background. Medium body, soft carbonation. Smooth on the palate, really pleasant mouthfeel. Subtle bittersweet taste with a touch of alcohol burn. Aroma is malty, caramel and toffee. Candy. Wood notes, subtle smoke. Herbal liquor. Alcohol in the finish, nicely warming. Slightly sticky, gets a bit dry. Lasting boozy finish. Overall, fine quality ale. Rich, balanced and tasty. Lovely brew.

500 ml bottle. Deep copper red color. Frothy tan head. Faint sweet roasted malt nose. First sip is caramel malt with treacle notes. Fairly intense bittersweet notes. Hints of oak and coriander in middle are subtle, but present. Dryish finish hints at dark dried fruit, licorice and spruce tips. Quite complex, the flavor deepens as it warms. Warming alcohol notes as well.

This is for the 2002 version, drank in about 2006 (?!). A vicious pour that produces giant bubbles that aren’t all that appealing to look at. The nose shows great depth of milk chocolate, ginger, coriander, anise, fermenting wort. The mouth goes even further with slight smokey notes and whiskey shows up. Very malty, off sweet. The whiskey continues to the end and finishes almost like a great scotch. Age helped this beer a lot. Fantastic.
