Brewed to celebrate the anniversary of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion the ale proved to be so popular it has become a permanent addition to the range. Based on an eighteenth century recipe the ale is spiced with coriander which gives a remarkably fresh aftertaste.

Bottle from Connollys Wines, Solihull. Poured a clear medium brown with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is sweet malt, creamy caramel toffee. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich red berry fruit, light alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

330ml bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige foam head leaving some lacing. Aroma of dark malt, zesty, spice. Taste is malt, bready, molasses, chocolate, raisins, with a floral note, and spicy, grassy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry nutty light bitter finish. Very drinkable.

330ml bottle at home shared with gf. BB 07/2024. almost black color, small coffee-colored head. smells malty sweet, raisins, spices, biscuits, some plums, some wood. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of dried fruits, plums, raisins, very light roast notes, some (warming) alcohol, spices, a bit peppery. finishes a bit dry with some roast and notes of dried fruits, some alcohol and also peppery. decent stuff, was expecting a bit more, rather alcoholic, has a bit of a peppery / light dry / a bit bitter finishes that does not work for me so well. Overall good stuff.

Bottle. Courtesy of TVT. Cheers Tim. Clear, ruby red. Film and halo of beige head. Chocolate and raspberry. Not unlike a Raspberry Ruffle chocolate bar. Some stewed apple. Some cinammon and black pepper. Taste is soft, smoky sweet. Hint of fruity dryness. Soft carbonation. Smooth, albeit a bit watery. Finishes light, toffee sweet. Light, fruity dry close. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Favourite Beers Cheltenham. Deep cola colour with a thin tan head. The aroma is a touch like cola with fruit, the taste is very strong caramel.

Bottle at home, 17th April 15. Pours deep dark brown, but clear. Little head. The aroma is burnt caramel, black treacle, liquorice. Taste is complex, caramel, molasses, cloves, slight alcohol. Body seems a little light. Good

Very dark but clear red brown colour, small frothy beige head, recedes after a while to a thin layer, fair lacing. Sweet malty nose, roasted, dark fruits, vanilla, cloves, liquorice, chocolate, old madera. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, chocolate, spicy notes. Full bodied, creamy texture, velvetty mouthfeel, soft carbonation, aftertaste rich and warm bittersweet, chocolate, spices, alcohol, quite dry palate at the end. Overall a beer with a rich aroma, a round taste and a warm finish.
