Our flagship, best selling ale marries a biscuity malt backbone with zingy, bitter hops in perfect beery harmony. We describe this one as a transatlantic IPA; taking the best from both British and American takes on the style.

330ml bottle (bottle conditioned): BBD Sep 15, poured into a ’Good People’ (Birmingham, Alamabama) badged pint sleeve, to make it feel like a true American Pale Ale, at home on 31 Oct 14. This beer was shared with no one. Lager like in looks in the body, clear golden with carbonation bubbles rising to a full, deep white blanket of foam. Nose and taste are hop sentric, with a bitterness from the start. Can not say it erupts like a volcano, but it certainly has a hop kick throughout and whatever malt content there is has been melted by the hop lava. I liked it, my sweet tooth aside, it floated my boat.

Very hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is dry and crisp. Very dry malt, slightly dusty. Pithy orange hops, touch of marmalade. Very dry finish. Too dry by far!

330ml bottle. Clear golden amber colour, white foam head leaving some lacing and aroma of biscuity malt & juicy citrus hop. Taste is similar, biscuit malt and a citrusy hop, earthy bitterness. Light bodied, medium carbonation, with a dry lingering bitter finish. Quite OK.

330ml bottle from Provenance, Edinburgh. Clear gold pour, nice white head. Big hop aromas, touch of butterscotch, but not too much. Taste has a malt backbone behind the big citrus and pine notes. bitter finish, not bad.

Poured by gravity @ NERAX North cask festival. 11/16/2013 Haverhill, MA. Pale straw color, no head. Nose is light pale malt, citrus hops and bread. Taste is far from an IPA. Flavor mirrors the nose. Lots of bread malt with weak, subtle fruit and citrus notes. Texture is sweet and sticky. Works as American Pale but when I see IPA I am expecting hops and bitterness. This lacks both.

33cl bottle from Provenance Wines. Appearance - golden with a very large head. Nose - tropical fruit probably mango but then some sweet citrus like lemon meringue pie.Taste - lemon and pine. Something estery too. Palate - medium bodied but a little too drying on the finish for me though the finish is very long. Overall - best beer I’ve had from Barney so far. Could be slightly more balanced though.

Keg at The Pitt. Hazy golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of lemon, flowers and crushed Rich Tea biscuits. Flavour of lemon, lime, grass and grapefruit. Thin to medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. Simple and tasty.
