Our Bourbon barrel-aged version of Santa’s Little Helper, this Imperial Stout begins the journey with flavors of sweet Bourbon and oak, continues with hints of nutty dark chocolate and malt and finishes with a smoky coffee finish. A perfect beer to leave for the Jolly Old Fat Man instead of milk and cookies.

Bottle, 22oz. An almost black one, topped by a dense, finger-thick dark beige head. The aroma is quite intense, lovely, with roasted matls, coffee hints, some chocolate and soy sauce and quite a lot of licorice. The flavor is equally pleasant, with lots of dark flavors, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, soy sauce and lots of licorice. Oak hints. Full body, almost silky. Lasting finish with lots of maltyness and roasted flavors. Mmmm, lovely. 130222

Bomber bought through Brill & Co. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a frothy pale mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving some trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, vanilla fudge, high quality dark chocolate, resinous wood, dark roast coffee, cedar, roasted coconut, raisins, alcohol, prunes and hints of Christmas fruit cake with brandy, Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla fudge, roasted coconut, resinous wood, cedar, raisins, prunes, alcohol and hints of sweet liquorice candy. Mouthfeel is round, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. finish is sweet and slightly bitter with roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, coconut and hints of raisins and prunes. Decadently barrel aged and very sweet but I like it.

22 oz. bottle @ home. Bought in 2009, so must be the first edition. Enjoyed early 2013. Black color. No head. Aroma’s of sweet bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate, alcohol, some roasted malts. Flavor is medium sweet, raisins, bourbon, somewhat roasted. Fairly strong alcohol feel. Velvetty body, hardly any carbonation (a bit more would have been nice). Flavors linger on for a while.

650ml bottle [Vintage 2012, 12.0% abv, Oak Barrel Aged]. Pitch black colour with small, frothy to creamy, diminishing, minimally lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma has notes of treacle and dark chocolate, combined with BA notes, oak, vanilla, leather. Taste is initially moderately sweet dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, treacle, later dry overtones come in, oak, vanilla, leather; in the end the sweeter parts gain weight again; in the finish hints of warming alcohol. Good balance of beer and BA flavours.
