33 cl bottle @ Leijuva Lahna, bottled 12.06.2013
Sweet and fruity aroma with caramel and mango. Flavour is sweet with caramel, exotic fruits, juicy notes and toffee. Quite heavy and a bit too sweet, not bad still. Reminds me of Nøgne Ø #500.

330ml bottle @ Leijuva Lahna, Helsinki
Bottled 12.06.13 - Pours dark orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, syrup, fruity hops and citrus. Taste is sweetish, malty and caramely with notes of syrup and loads of fruity bitter hops. Finish is malty, caramely and sweetish with some stingy bitter hops. Pretty hoppy, but perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste. Quite similar to Nøgne’s #500, but not as perfectly balanced.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20131001) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, fruitiness and floralness. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, fruitiness, malts, caramell and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, hoppy and bitter. This beer showed the typical problem of Double IPAs: strong hoppiness and high ABV result in somewhat glue-like overall impression.

From a 330ml bottle on 8/8/2013. Pours a very dark, slightly cloudy golden with a big white head. Has a sublime sweet floral aroma, with some light fruity notes. Flavour wise there lots of sweetness, with light caramel malt, honey and stone and tropical fruit (apricot and particularly mango). As one would expect from an imperial IPA, there’s a big hop presence, with a good does of grapefruit and resin finishing things off. Has a quite a syrupy texture and the carbonation is medium. All up this is very enjoyable, though be warned that the sweetness holds sway over the bitterness.

Pours hazy dark amber with a large, fading head.Lots of pine, grapefruit, caramel malt, booze and confectionery on the nose.Pretty aggressive flavours, lots of pine and resinous hops along with a massive serving of sweet clean malt. Finishes with an assertive bitterness.Body feels a bit too thick.

Bottle. Clear darkish amber, tiny light beige head hangs in there. Aroma of toffee, flowers, pine, grapefruit, nectarines. Slight window cleaner. Rather low carbonation. Toffee, stone fruit, kumquats, pine, pepper. Moderate but lingering bitterness and kumquats. Dangerously drinkable. Lovely balance. [3.7]Another one from the Bridge Rd advent box. Can’t read the date but it’s ferociously hoppy. I guess the first batch did have a conditioning issue - this is much more highly carbonated. And it is plenty the worse for it: quite astringent at the end with harsh bitterness. [3.3] Averaging score.
