Pours a deep red-copper color. A special batch of Inis & Gunn beer was brewed and matured in oak for 60 days; 30 days in American oak barrels, and 30 days in navy rum barrels. It was then matured 47 more days for a full marriage of flavors.
NOTE: Rum Aged, Rum Finish & Oak Aged Rum Finish are the same beer as Rum Cask. They are an alias for different export markets with a tweaked process.
Innis & Gunn: "They are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same.

Clean copper colour with a golden-amber highlight. The head is creamy, light beige coloured with decent retention and thick creamy lacing that stays. Mild roasted malt base aromas with a touch of caramel, oak-vanilla and a nice spicy, rum touch. The taste is not as rich as the nose. The flavours are well-blended and there is no syrupy, nor lingering in the thick sense. Not bad and easy-drinking.

Originally rated March 2009. Special limited quantities of these arrived at the LCBO, and one of the employees had kept me one (thank you). Best before date of December 2009 and comes in a cardboard box with a nice classy label. Pours a red-copper colour with a decent off-white frothy head, with medium retention and lots of dirty lace. Very light carbonation with a smell of roasted malt, some fruit and some aroma of strong liquor (rum cask). Pretty light mouthfeel that is mostly watery. The taste is not as powerful as the nose. Some fruit, some mild caramel, and almost a wax aftertaste (which is not in my good books). So, well-brewed, but not liking this as much as their normal oak aged beer. RE-RATED: Comes in a three pack and glass for Christmas 2010. Better brewed, well-balanced. Nice dark fruit in the taste with the oak wood in the finish and some caramel malts. I liked this edition.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours clear, but very dark, mahogany with a moderate beige head. Aroma of amber ale with hints of rum and somewhat musty wood. Med body. Flavor of rum and lightly musty wood with amber/toffee malt flavor. A bit sweet and not very bitter. Rum saves the day.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours an extremely dark ruddy copper with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is musty oak. With a spiritous note. Flavor is a somewhat smokey rum. Astringent oak. Sweet and spicy? Maybe underneath the smoke and oak. There certainly is a strong character to this beer.

Bottle from Waitrose in Rickmansworth, Herts. A dark ruby/brown coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Sweet, fruity, vanilla, rum, caramel aroma/taste. A bit like a boozy cola and presented in a clear bottle which is quite something in 2021. Quite drinkable.

Bottle from ASDA Supermarket, Manchester. Hazed brown coloured with a head. Its rum is prevalent in its taste, a little less so in its nose, but it provides a type of spirit-like sweetness to the ale without being sweet. Texture-wise it's a little soapy. Rum and raisin fruitiness.
Earlier Rating: 1/26/2012 Total Score: 2.6

Clear bottle from Tesco Inverurie. It pours clear deep ruby with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is sweet, fruity, raisin, sultana, fruit cake, rum & coke, glace cherry, caramel, Dr Pepper, brown bread and malt loaf. The taste is initially dry and woody, bitter - sweet, toothy, chewy, rum & coke, caramel, malt loaf, rather fruity, raisin, prune, date, sultana, cherry, Dr Pepper and a touch of alcohol with bitter - sweet finish. Medium body and average carbonation. The sort of beer you don't want to like or be seen drinking, but you do it anyway and it ain't bad at all. Brings me back to my pre-RB days.

Bottle from Asda. It pours deep ruby, with a thin off-white head. The nose is gingerbread, oak, rum and spice. The taste is caramel, oak, wood varnish, rum, sweet dark fruit and spice with dry, woody finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Solid balance. Easily the best beer I have had from the Innis & Gunn lot to date. Decent.
