Pours a deep red-copper color. A special batch of Inis & Gunn beer was brewed and matured in oak for 60 days; 30 days in American oak barrels, and 30 days in navy rum barrels. It was then matured 47 more days for a full marriage of flavors.
NOTE: Rum Aged, Rum Finish & Oak Aged Rum Finish are the same beer as Rum Cask. They are an alias for different export markets with a tweaked process.
Innis & Gunn: "They are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same.

Bottle. Clear ruby body with an off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cinder toffee, prune and a hint of smoke. Flavour of roasted malt, wood, rum and raisin. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A tasty beer - what’s with the clear bottle though?
Earlier Rating: 11/10/2012 Total Score: 2.4
Aroma: Dark fruits, rum and sugar.
Appearance: Dark ruby body with a fragile beige head that soon fades. No visible carbonation or lacing.
Taste: Sweet (but thankfully not to the extent of their ’Original’) with plummy fruit flavours. Brown sugar. Not very hoppy. Noticeable alcohol burn on the finish.
Palate: Thin body with a watery texture. Soft carbonation.
Overall: Too sweet and sickly for me - I couldn’t finish the bottle. And on a side note, why does this come in a clear bottle? Do the brewers not care about protecting their product from getting lightstruck?

Poured from 330mL bottle. Clear mahogany brown with full off white head. Subdued typical I&G malt profile with underlying rum character. Quite similar to the now retired I&G generic rum cask, but slightly sweeter, more dark sugars. Okay.
Earlier Rating: 12/4/2013 Total Score: 3.4
Poured from 330mL bottle. Clear amber colour with dissipating off-white head. Vanilla, oak, toffee, malt nose with very subtle hint of rum. Same flavour. Rum taste is much subtler and balanced compared with the spiced rum finish. Smooth, medium body, but finish is a little shorter than usual for I&G beers.

33cl bottle. Chestnut brown in colour with a nice head which hangs around for a good while. The nose has sugar and malt - the beer underneath seems quite thin. The taste is of more sugar, coconut and slightly oxidised beer in the background. The palate is medium all the way through and it doesn’t really refresh on the end. Overall, I’d struggle to have more than one.

Clear dark reddish amber beer, light just passes through. Decent bubbly pale tan head. The nose says fruity rum, but says it quietly. Light palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Very mild barrel induced vanilla marries well enough with the soft fruity rum. A little malt cream underpins what is mostly a barrel flavoured beer. Light finish. Nice enough but I am sure previous incarnations of this beer had some more bones than this slightly ephemeral affair.

11th August 2008. People whom know more about beer than me say all these Innis & Gun beers are full diacetyl. I guess I must like diacetyl!!! Very sweet and complex. Starts with sweet rum, wood and even a little chewing gum. Continues onwith sweet buttercream.
