All New Englanders have a special place in their hearts for the old, dilapidated covered bridge of their youth. Maybe you rumbled over one every day riding shotgun in the family’s rusted-out pickup truck, or maybe one stands out from some rustic vacation largely long-since forgotten. No matter the case, they remain a symbol of nostalgia and youthful exuberance, a figurative bridge to another time.
For the traditionalist, the sentimental at heart, we offer Robust Porter, our take on a style of beer that, like these bridges, has remained impervious to trends, stalwart in the face of change. One gulp and you’ll be teleported to a simpler time. To that, all we can say is, Cheers

26/09/2013 Brasserie 4:20 (handpump, 2009). Nera, impenetrabile, schiuma abbondante color bianco sporca, abbastanza persistente.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, best before February 29, 2012 (oops) set on the counter for a bit and poured into a shaker. Pours black with very small beige head. Some small bubble lacing, medium body, medium carbonation, and roasty aroma. Taste is dry coffee, dark chocolate, hint of cherry, and bitter slightly herbal hops. Good porter, better as it warms.

It poured a nice black with a half inch foamy off-white/tan head leaving a superb foamy spider web lacing, very ringy. The smell had chocolate malts combined very nicely with a nice roastiness. The taste had the chocolate overpowering pretty much everything else, but in a good way, nothing overbearing, just really good balanced really well with the coffee. The palate was about a medium, perhaps maybe even closer to a heavier feel with nothing harsh on the tongue. Overall, this is good for the style and very good to me.

On tap at The Reservoir in Waterbury, VT. Pours near-black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of mildly roasted malts and some light espresso notes - certainly smells like a porter. Flavour is more robust, as the name suggests, with lots of roasted malts and a prominent hop component - not enough to be a black IPA, but enough to round this off. Excellent porter.
