Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine with Vanilla, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Maple Syrup
This is our classic bourbon barrel-aged barleywine ale, Mash, joining forces with even stickier, malt-forward forces from our barrel warehouse to create the gooey-sweet profile you’d expect from a french toast-like creation from The Bruery. If the allure of rich, caramelized notes or maple character don’t rouse you out of bed, the wafts from our brewer’s kitchen will, summoning you with nutmeg and cinnamon spices and warm vanilla character. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and Mash & French Toast. No utensils required.

Bottle split at Tipples belated 10K, CBC Islington, 18/12/18 thanks to the Kenneth. Hazed light mahogany brown with a well presented beige covering. Nose is sweet malts, toasted bricohe, raisens, brown sugar, maple syrup. Taste comprises French toast, subtle bourbon rip, caramel melt, maple syrup, sweet malts, candied fruit rinds. Full bodied, oily persona, balanced warming alcohol at the curtain call. Solid sipper or perhaps a xolid xipper?

Bottle shared in London - cheers! Pours unclear amber with a creamy off-white head. Lots of holiday spices, cinnamon, then some baked goods, toffee. Medium to full bodiednwith fine carbonation. Finishes with more cinnamon, toasted malts, boozy warmth, a little maple. Fun as a novelty.

Craft Islington Bottleshare. Hazy deep amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, sweet. Vanilla and a little caramel. Fruity bourbon. Nice baked vanilla and well integrated mellow cinnamon. Dangerously drinkable.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is rich with lots of caramel, toffee, and light toasted bread notes. Fairly strong nutmeg and cinnamon notes. Light maple syrup notes with some light oak and bourbon as well. Medium light alcohol notes. A little more maple as it warms. Pours a murky brown with some amber hues and a medium small, moderately thick, tan head that recedes somewhat quickly to the edges where a small film lingers for a bit and disappears. No lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is very sweet with lots of caramel, toffee, sugar and toasted bread. Moderately light maple syrup notes with lighter vanilla. Some light oak with moderate cinnamon and nutmeg. Moderate bitterness and alcohol warmth. Light bourbon and oak with medium light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty tasty beer. I’m not sure it really reminds me of french toast, but it’s still tasty. I think the nutmeg and the cinnamon are a bit strong for my preferences, but the maple, vanilla and sugary sweet notes are nice. Alcohol is well hidden.
