Bottle at the thirsty giraffe. Bottle in 2009 so a bit of age. Black colour with pretty much no head. Aroma and taste are roasted malty sweet. Slight liquorice and coffee. Dried fruit. Boozy body.

275ml bottle [2010 vintage, #1439/1600]. Jet black colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Roasty, chocolately, malty spicy aroma, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, liquorice, a touch of marmite, roasted nuts, dark caramel, ashy overtones. Taste is roasty, chocolately, dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, some couverture, liquorice, a sweet-ish touch of treacle, caramel, roasted nuts, a minimally ashy touch, bitter hoppy counterpart. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, soft carbonation. In these flourishing flavoured times a nice reminder of what a classic if not historic Imperial Stout can be. Pretty good.

Aromas are liquorice, leather, tar, pipe tobacco, hint of dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, more tar and liquorice. Burnt notes, but good. Warming smooth booze hint. Rich, creamy texture. Long finish. Nice.

Bottle at the Croydonia Tasting - East Croydon. This one I picked up at the Kris Wines some time ago. Pours clear, brown-black with a fine, tan cream head. Nose of dried dark fruits, chocolate, well-roasted malts and ash. Medium to big sweet flavor with sugary, dry bread, raisins, chocolate cake, dark fruits. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with deep and dark malts, chocolate, burnt marshmallows, prunes and other dark, dried and ripened fruits. Solid.
