Color ámbar tirando a rojizo. Muy efervescente. Espuma muy cremosa. Ligero aroma a frambuesa. Cuerpo medio y tono contundente, con final alcohólico agradable. Sabor entre frutas rojas y amargor, quizás café.

On tap @ the brewery tap room at the abbey. Clear brown color with a red hue. Off white to light beige head with a thin layer retaining, reasonable lacing. Aroma’s: fruity, light sweet. Retronasal there’s dark malt, red fruit, light sweetness, herbs & yeast. Flavor is moderate sweet, dark malts, light spices. Medium bodied. Short finish, with some caramel.

Bottle at Poechenellekelder. It pours darkest brown with a decent off-white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, toasty, candy sugar, raisin, sultana, toasty sugars and sweet roast. The taste is bitter-sweet, sweet candy sugar, raisin, toast, raisin, dates, alcohol hit, brown sugar, roast, varnish and a touch of spice. Med+ body and moderate carbonation. Pretty good dubbel. Plenty of boost.

Cloudy brown beer with a thick, bubbly head. Aroma is rich and fruity though you can also smell the strength of it. Fortunately given the strength it’s one to savour than to guzzle anyway as it’s really quite sweet. Not especially sickly, the fruit flavours are quite natural rather than it being a sugary mess, but there’s a proper tanginess to it when you first have a swig. Quite light in spite of everything though.

KØLF 190914. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is apple, malt, caramel, fruit. Flavour is fruit, sugar, malt, dried fruits, apple, caramel, yeast. Medium body. OK/Nice beer.

Bottle at the Delirium Monasterium, Brussels. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is light sweet malt. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich red berry fruit, yeast, malt alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not so bad but a little sweet for me.

Abbey dubbel since 1996, like the other Val-Dieus brewed in a former monastery, but by laymen instead of monks. Hazy bronze coloured beer with moussy off-white head and estery aroma, fruity, some orange, raisins, candi sugar, yeasty with medium sweetish taste and spicy hints with mild herbal hops in the finish. Ordinary but decent.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear dark brown, long-lasting off-white head. Nutty aromas - hazelnuts and almonds, toast too. Touch of icing sugar. Taste is nutty, brown malt, demerara sugar Quite sweet, but seems to hold together with a light herbal bitterness. Nice.
