De goudblonde Extra wordt slechts tweemaal per jaar gebrouwen en is alleen bedoeld voor intern gebruik. Dit bier drinken de monniken en hun gasten immers enkel bij het middagmaal. Typisch voor de Extra is dat hij alleen met water, gerstemout en hopbellen wordt gebrouwen. Hij deelt zijn gist met de Dubbel en Tripel en is dus ook een bier van hoge gisting, al bevat hij maar 4,8% alcohol. Het aroma is typisch Westmalle en het hoppige karakter zorgt voor een dorstlessende droge afdronk.

Bottle at home picked up from HOTM. A mostly clear gold yellow straw coloured pour with a big rocky white head. Aroma is straw, lemon twist, floral lemon notes, belgo yeast, apple and lime . Flavour is composed of light chalky, lime, light spicy Belgian phenols, super crisp and crisp, little rusty penny. Little alcohol bite. Palate is light and super crisp, highish spritzy carbonation.

Bottle, 2023 vintage. Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with notes of bread, grainy malt, citrus and grassy hops. Pours cloudy golden colored with a finger of white head that has decent retention and good lacing. Starts with bready malt, grainy malt and citrus flavors. Finishes dry, but crisp and refreshing with spicy Belgian yeast and grassy hop flavors. Excellent patersbeir.

Bottle on 11th May 2025 from CPK, Pimlico. Pours slightly hazy yellow gold with slowly diminishing off-white foam. Spiced citrus aroma. Intense citrus in-mouth with spiced malts. Finish is malty and spicy with citrus notes fading first. Full bodied with a zingy mouthfeel.

Dorada casi limpia de abundante espuma jabonosa de retención media. Aroma ligeramente lupulado, especiado notas herbales. En boca es carbónica en exceso, dura de saborear y de digerir. Amargor notable, y tono herbal y especiado. Defrauda.

Clear golden pour, large white head.. Light citrus, sharp cereals, grassy with light pine notes. Dry finish, lovely bitterness. Fantastic table beer. Would love to be able to have this daily.
