Bottle from eebria.com. Hazy amber with an off white head. Fruity light sour slight bitter aroma and taste. Medium body.

The sole remaining 11.2 oz bottle at the closest craft beer store, I purchased gladly a week or two back. The cap comes off, I get a tremendous surge of foam, on and on. I then pour into a tall handled beer glass, let’s save as much as we can. The body is a densely cloudy orange, sediment settling to the bottom. I smell orange peel, coriander and something grainy. With all this I finally take a drink. Hmm, better than expected, a little unusual and that is good in my book. The orange rind again, hops, cereal, a hint of tangerine. A departure from all those IPAs tasting the same. 7/6/18

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Gushed out the bottle on opening, lost about a third of it. Misty light amber in colour, frothy white head. Fruity hop nose, some Brett, orange, melon. Taste sees Brett dominate proceedings, crisp and sherbetty with orange peel, pithy zest, candied fruits and sweet spice. Perhaps too sweet.

Huge gusher after opening, F: big, egg-white, good retention. C: orange amber, hazy. A: malty, funky, brett, fruity, spicy, candy, bit leather. T: malty, brett, funky, nice fruity, spicy, peach, woody, medium body and carbonation, very good, enjoyed beside the gusher at opening, 33cl bottle from Prik&Tik Kampenhout near Leuven.

Keg at Six Degrees North. It pours hazy orange - amber with a medium, foamy white head. The aroma is sweet, bready, brioche, candied orange peel, pear drops, apple, spice, bit of booze, caramel and a touch of green banana. The taste is dry, rather bitter, resin, candied fruits, pear, melon, banana, spicy, grassy, pithy, straw, pepper, floral action, dry wood and some alcohol warmth through the finish. Medium+ body and highish, foamy carbonation. Decent enough.

Mild hopfiger, weich hefig-bitterer Antrunk. Moderat herb, die Hopfigkeit steigt an, würzig, süffig. Weich hopfig zum Ende. Nett. 10/9/10/10//10

Keg at six degrees north Edinburgh. Pours golden orange, nose is biscuity, floral, spiced, taste is bitter, dry, funky.

Tout à la brasserie Alvinne est une question de levure : la Morpheus, ramenée tout droit des contrées auvergnates. Sa spécificité est de pouvoir être utilisée pour les bières sûres et traditionnelles ainsi que de pouvoir convenir à des bières à haute teneur alcoolique. Son utilisation par la brasserie en fait des bières très spécifiques, que j’encourage ceux qui n’en n’ont jamais dégusté à tester. Pour cette Gaspar, le résultat est intéressant avec une bière très amère (EBU de 115), mais qui comporte des déséquilibres avec notamment des arômes âcresen fin de dégustation. En verre, la bière est blond doré tirant sur l’orangé (EBC de 20), quasi limpide et une mousse blanc cassée très aérée de cinq centimètres d’épaisseur. La forte effervescence est d’ailleurs une caractéristique de la levure. Le nez n’est pas exceptionnel avec une dominante vinaigre de pomme alliée à des arômes d’agrumes. L’amertume se fait ressentir dès l’attaque. L’équilibre est alors bon avec des arômes sur les agrumes et les fruits jaunes. La deuxième bouche est la plus agréable sur les fruits exotiques et une arrière bouche sur une amertume herbacée saillante. La troisième bouche marque alors l’amertume la plus intense et la plus saillante. Chinook et Columbus montrent leur puissance (à noter en complément, l’utilisation de Magnum et Mittelfruh). Jusqu’à présent plutôt cohérente, le final marquera une transition très particulière, peu homogène avec des arômes âcres et des airs fermiers (et de très petites notes de résineux). Vous n’avez qu’à fermer les yeux pour voir des vaches salers (race auvergnate)! Ce final reste de plus très longuement en bouche et vient perturber toute la dégustation. Cette bière est donc une expérience, pas désagréable, plutôt curieuse, mais c’est cette diversité qui nous fait également apprécier le monde brassicole.

Bottle cellared in 2008. I was seduced by it being a strong Belgian ale (8% abv). But its hoppiness might not be as good as it might have been had I drunk it fresh. So this may not be as the brewer intended it to taste when he put it in the bottle. The beer pours out a bright yellow at the start, but once it’s in the glass, it turns a dark orange. There’s a lot of stuff floating around in it, whether that’s bits of hop leaf, spices or yeast sediment, I’m not sure from sight. The smell is malty and alcoholic with definite honey, somehow, maybe cinnamon as well. The taste shows more of that honey and light spice. The hops do come in with the aftertaste of the first sip. A citrussy American hop, but with the bitterness entirely aged out. The last pour is murky, and only with the last sip did I get any taste of dead yeast. Overall the beer is malty with noticeable alcohol, turning just a bit phenolic, but it hung in there over six years. A well-recommended beer for a winter warmer of after dinner.
