Aestatis is a Season type beer brewed in Belgium by De Struise. The beer takes its name from the Latin Aestas, meaning summer, and it couldn’t be a better fit.

The beer pours a rich, cloudy gold, crowned by a light white head.

The nose is a pleasant mix of sweet honey and caramel notes with fruity hops, and apricot, date and grassy scents.

On the tongue there are agreeable malt, caramel, grass and yeast notes with a light, floral side. The finish is crisp and bitter.

330ml bottle at Jamey’s, vintage 2015. Pours a hazy amber with a white head. Aroms is tart, bready, caramel, dark fruits, slightly yeasty. Taste is pretty the same plus good hoppy bitterness, which doesn’t present on aroma at all. Bready, roasted malt, hoppy bitterness aftertaste. Very good. Do not overcool this beer though.

Bottle at Level 42, thanks to Fergus & Matteo, 09/06/16. Orange amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose is caramel, spice, yeast esters, candied fruit peel, toasted sugars, hint of orange marmalade. Taste comprises bitter orange, spice, candied fruits, booze tunes, caramel, malt, straw. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Too hot for the style, sippable but not what I want from a saison.

Medium to heavy sweet flavor with lightly buttery bread, melon, orange, hitter hay. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, a little sticky, with hints of alcohol, tangerine. Grainy wheat bread, melon. Not bad.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at home in company of Lynn and Barry Sunday 1st May 2016. Hazy warm gold with a huge foamy and frothy white head. A little prickly on the nose, warming in the mouth, fruity and tangy with a real punch. Quite thick in the mouth. It’s ok, not great, fine. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3
