Brewed especially for the BxlBeerFest 2019, Mussels in Brussels is an Imperial Mussels Stout of 9% ABV featuring a complex malt bill (pale ale, special b, carapils, caramunich, melanoiden, chocolate wheat, barley flakes, oat flakes) and the addition of 8kg of fresh mussels—both meat and shells—for minerality and fullbodiedness.

Bottle, from the BXL pack. Pours a deep mahogany brown. Light tan head is dense, messy, lasting, and semi lacing. Looks well. Nose has coffee chocolate. Stewed dark fruit. Liquorice. Rich roast malt. Taste is really well balanced sweet liquorice, with earthy, roast malt and coffee bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel belies the ABV. Nicely slick with fine carbonation. Bitterness increases on the finish and lingers an age. Very nice.

Sampled at Borefts Pre-Tasting 2019. Dark brown to black color, medium to full sized beige head, kind of creamy even. Looks nice. Aroma is malts, something weird I can't put my finger on. Flavor is malts, dark malts, malt bitter, but also a slight tart hint. I don't know. Carbonation is way too heavy for my liking as well. Not a fan of this at all tbh.
