”Our brewers were all fired up when they stood by the fire for this brew. Literally. For The Brave, they roasted both the barley and the malt in the flames. This is what gives the beer its intense, dark and complex range of roasted flavours. To make it even more distinctive, the brewers used bourbon kegs from Kentucky and Tennessee to give the beer a woody tone. Feisty, bold and robust: this is one beer that is not for the faint-hearted.

75cl bottle, gift from the in-laws. Pours a deep dark brown, small off-white head. Spicy sweet nose. Taste presents a decent spicy winter dubbed, rich caramel, not as sweet as some, but nicely presented though I can't really detect much bourbon influence. Not bad.

Almost black with lasting thin head. Aroma is slightly metallic and also has dried fruits. Flavour has bitter roasted malts, wood, light vanilla sweetness and raisins.

Bottle shared by dad. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized mocha head. Smell and taste malts, caramel notes, malt bitter, light roast. Don't get bourbon, or wood. Decent beer.

Zwart bier met mooie bruine schuimkraag. Smaak is licht zoet en licht bitter met iets van chocolade en karamel. Fijn bier.

At Café Cambrinus, Bruges. Shared with Anke!
Pours cloudy dark brown to black with a lasting, small, beige head. The aroma contains roasted malt, dark chocolate, bourbon, wood, coffee, dried fruits and hops. It tastes light fruity sweet and light to medium roasted bitter; long, roasted finish with bourbon alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Not a great Imperial Stout, still better than other regular beers.

L'effet Bourbon reste discret.

Huge amber -tan head, slowly receding, leaving lacerings over deep black-brown beer. Rich, melanoidin-laden, lightly roasted nose; green leaves, breadcrust (Maillard?), meatroast. Wood, breadcrust, bit of chocolate breakfast cereals. Ever so slightly tobacco, maybe some vanilla...? Some hint of black cardamom. Very slick, but not very full body, rather lean feel. Creamy head; The Bourbon must have gone long from those barrels; Yet, this might well be the first A.'s L. that makes sense to me in the Brave New World of craftbeer. Well, OK, that was before I read they aimed at an Imperial Stout. I thought they had made a somewhat stronger, darker Scotch ale... 7/4/7/3/13

Bottle from LDW, Eke. Hazy brown colour, beige foam. Roasty, notes of caramel, dried fruit. Rather thin body. Sweet, easy drinkable. More a roasty doppelbock than an imperial stout. And where is the bourbon? All in all not bad, but not in the right style.
