Bottle from Van Eetvelde. The ninth Arthur's Legacy, (finally) a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout... Shared with Jan. Tightly lacing, creamy, dense, whipped cream-like, yellowish beige, stable head over a very dark chestnut brown beer, blackish in general appearance but with hazy ochre edges. Aroma of moldy walnuts, coffee grounds, dried banana, caramel, dead tree leaves, nutmeg, black radish, a lot of clove-like phenols, dry earth, baker's yeast, burnt toast, liquorice, black pepper, faint wet wood, bourbon (too) subtle, wet dog, faint moist mushrooms. Restained sweetish taste, dried peaches, apple peel, banana, sourish undercurrent, quite sharp carbonation, too much for the style, supple but somewhat thinnish mouthfeel, quite soapy. Nutty maltiness, nut shells with a dash of burnt toast adding bitterness, which becomes a tad wry in the finish due to the addition of a strong dosis of herbal, very earthy, rooty hop bitterness on the one hand and whisky-like alcohol on the other hand; lingering caramelly malt sweetness, quite some bready yeast effects, but very little bourbon - or wood, although it is noticeable in the distance. Too earthy, too yeasty, too phenolic, too carbonized - not the kind of BBA stout the craft beer lover would expect these days, but honestly I did not expect much more from this anyway. Drinkable, but missing the point, as is the case with nearly all these Arthur's Legacy beers so far.

Clear dark purple brown beer, nice creamy beige head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: banana, soft roast, some band-aid. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter, bit medicinal, pretty roasted. Aftertaste: fruity touch, chocolate, bit sweet, bitter hops, pretty floral, banana. Didn't detect anything in the bourbon range of flavours... Belgian style stout with dominant yeast character.
