Can picked up at Antenna America, served in a fluted glass. It pours a deep gold with a thick fizzy head, actually this gushed a bit which was a surprise as the can had been sitting in my fridge awhile. Malty, biscuity aroma with no real hop presence straight from the fridge I need to smell it again once it warms up. The label says pale ale but ratebeer says kolsch and judging from the look, smell & taste I’d say ratebeer is right. I hate it when the label misleads like that it affects how I enjoy the beer, I crack it expecting some west coast hops from Ballast Point only to find a middle of the road kolsch. Well made, tasty balance of malt & light earthy/spicy german hops with a mild earthy finish. Not doing it for me, just change it’s name to Ballast Point Kolsch and you’d probably get an extra .5 from me. I am rating this as if it was a pale ale which in that case it isn’t to style as it isn’t hoppy enough. Nitpicking a bit I guess but If I ordered this at a bar as the menu just said Pale Ale I’d probably be annoyed as it doesn’t taste like a pale ale at all. Lower score than if the label clearly stated Kolsch rather than Pale Ale. They made a kolsch the side of the can says kolsch why market it as a pale ale???

Poured up on tap at Flanny’s in Tempe where it has a crystal clear deep gold body that supports a white head and leaves behind bits of lacing. The aroma offers up sweet malts, some sweet Pilsner like malts and then floral hoppiness. The taste starts a bit sweet with a dash of sweet pear like fruity esters. To midway it picks up some malts with a thin grainy edge and soft floral hops. If, and only if, this was a little less sweet and a bit more crisp this would be a pretty darn solid Kolsch. For an American made Kolsch it is one of the better ones I’ve had.

Klar gylden, hvidt skum. Medium fylde, en smule humle og græs? Skarp eftersmag. Ikke specielt interessant.

Bottle. Golden colour with a white head. Aroma is fruit, malt, hop, grass. Flavour is fruit, malt, hint of hop, grass, hay. Medium body. Ordinary beer.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy light orange with a small short lived head even after a vigorous pour. Light malty aroma with hints of honey and apples. Dray and bready sweet light malts. A bit more of a trailing bitterness than I expected.

Flaska från SBs beställningssortiment. Lite överaskande att det är en kölsch och inte en apa, men kölsch är ju iofs en pale ale. En välgjord och relativt klassisk tolkning och ett av stilen. Lätt, fruktig och blommig och finstämda maltsmaker med ljust bröd, säd och en lätt efterbeska med en liten citruston. Riktigt god och en öl man verkligen kan dricka flera av.

Bottle. Lemon malt and hay aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Grainy barley malt and hay flavor. Not bad.

Bottle at the hotel in San Diego. The beer pours a clear straw color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grassy hops and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of mild grassy hops and biscuit malt. The finish is lightly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Average overall.
