Our original California Kölsch is a rich golden brew, crafted with aromatic German hops and rounded out with a blend of American and Munich malts. While it's hopped like a lager, we ferment it like an ale to create a smooth, bright taste that has just a hint of fruit and spice. It's extremely drinkable, like a Kölsch should be. And complex, like a good craft beer demands.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with an amber hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains, a bit of grass and an underlying sulfur note. Flavor starts with sweet grains and has a backing of grass and light flora.

Pours a clear copper with very little to no head. Rather muted aromas of hops and malt. Flavor is a balanced malt sweetness, with some fruitiness. A bit watery in the mouthfeel, but not a bad beer by any means.

Bottle @ home thx to benzai. Clear golden yellow with lots of carbo bubbles and a small white head. Smells very malty, fresh, cardboard. Tastes malts, grains. A bit thin, soft carbo, dull.

12 oz bottle, thanks Brenn79. No mention of the word Yellowtail on the label, just Ballast Point Pale Ale. Aroma is doughy, chalky. Pours golden with a light haze; has a medium white head with good retention. Taste is lightly sweet with a touch of bitterness; hoppy and toasty with faint fruitiness. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Definitely the best Kolsch I’ve ever had. I went into this skeptical, because I’ve never really had a good one. Guess I’ve just never had the right brewery.

Orange-tan classic beer color. Steady creamy white head. Really nails the style, maybe even improves on it, adding a nice hoppy edge. Clean, doughy golden malt, balanced fruity yeast tones and restrained hop bitterness. Excellent balance, refreshing on the palate. Served in a frozen mug unfortunately that really detracts from some of the mellow tones. Well done!

Bottle. Pours clear golden with small white head. Clear aroma of yeast and hops with a mild skunky note. Bitter, hoppy flavour wi notes of grain, yeast and a good deal of paper, although rather undisturbing. High carbonation. Not bad for a Kölsch not made in Germany.
