OTH tasting 09/06/08. After rating 1700+ and coming up on 20 years of drinking craft beer this is my first try of a Pelican brew. Yeah, I’m psyched. Let’s do this. Pours deep clear darkness with thin off white head. The aroma starts with dark fruity esters followed by roasty to almost nutty malts. I also get some lingering muted spices here and there. The taste begins with a watery sensation bringing in notes of dark fruity esters, rich and tasty roasted malts and deep yet mildly assertive nuttiness. Very nice.

A solid brown ale. Caramel and molassas, on the sweet side. Lightly roasted malt and some lactose with a thicker than usual palate.

Sampled at the Savor DC event. Pours a translucent amber brown with a wispy white head. Sweet, malty, sugary, inviting aroma. Flavor has plenty of malt, chewy grains, toffee and nuts. Finish is clean and dry. Solid, drinkable session beer.

Draft at the Pelican. Clear darkish brown color with beige head. Aroma of toasted malt with stone fruit. Toasted malt with stone fruit to start. Background of a darker, porter style toasted malt. Finish is fruit, light toasted malt, very light, but little bitter. Still, it’s very good to drink.

Thanks to cmaruschak for sharing. The beer is a dark amber color with a medium foamy off-white head with good retention. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mildly malty with a hint of chocolate. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture. The flavor is more hoppy than expected, along with malt and chocolate. The finish is dry and hoppy with a bit of a fruity aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable overall.

[At Stockholm Beer Festival 2005] A brown beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet and slightly hoppy, while the flavor is just like an English brown ale, primary notes of roasted malt, slight note of caramel, with a dry end, and a thin body.
