Near black but with red highlights, under a small greyish head. Very fruity, estery nose; banana, black grape juice, apricot, sweet plums. Very yeast-determined. Bitter and liquorice; bitterness seems to hail from roasted malts rather than hops. Alcohol spews out from the glass, and it ain’t just ethanol. Warming up greatly helps the balance: most volatile fruity overload gone, the beer settles nicely, if without any head left. Very thick, alcoholwarming, chewy and a little bit of astringency. Super-Affligem, but with a truckload of esters and higher alcohols, you wouldn’t believe.
