Honey and tea aroma, grainy and with good strength. Clear copper, thin head, some lacing. Tons of honey from start to finish. Malty and grainy, ending with hay. A bit of a metallic edge. Powdery mouthfeel. Distinctive and flavorful. Refreshing EPA, not APA, IMVHO.

22 ounce bottle from Total Wine South Richmond, VA. Opened 6/14/10. Pours a clear copper color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of earthy, slightly vegetal hops with nuts and caramel. The taste is toasted malts, caramel, leafy, citrus hops. Medium bodied. Tasty beer. 200th rating of this beer. Hooray!

Nice super deep (for the style) hazy amber coloured body with a thinish and relatively late developing tan head. Aroma of hops, yeast, light malt, caramel and a bit of bread and a hint of citrus. Not much in the nose. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt up front with some hops, a touch of fruit and some mild sugars. Aftertaste shows almost no hops, almost no malt and barely anything else of interest. Overall, a pretty bad beer - I was expecting much better, especially in this style and from the West Coast. Definitely in the bottom tier for this brewery and the style, not really worth trying, especially if you are thinking this is rare (if you are on the East Coast) and are happy that a specific store is now stocking Pike beers. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased on 25-May-2010 (two days ago) at Total Wine in McLean, Virginia sampled at home on 27-May-2010 in Washington.

A dark amber ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, restrained hops, heavier on caramel malt. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with butterscotch, veering on an Irish Red, nutty, German like hops. Interesting. On tap at brewpub, Sept. 12 2009.

Pale orange with minimal white head. Heavy sweet malty aroma with some fruit and light grass hops. Aroma is just too sweet for me. Flavor is sweet but has slightly better balance with the hops. Malts, molasses, light citrus hops, a touch of earth, and a malty, bready finish. Syrupy mouth. Decent, but not what I’m looking for in a pale.

Reddish tinged amber color with a slight white head. Mild floral hop aroma over a little caramel. Near medium body with fizzy/frothy carbonation. Flavor is very lightly floral with a little roast caramel. Finishes very mildly bitter. Fairly light over all.

Bottle. Mild brown malty aroma backed by fruity hop. Copper color with a light beige head. Starts a bit fruity, backed by some malt, maybe a bit of nut. Nearly creamy. Moderately carbonated. Very pleasant. A decent amount of hop shows up to help with the malt. Leaves the mouth fresher and less sweet than many ambers. Gets better as the bottle goes on.
