Bourbon barrel-aged wheat-wine ale with cacao nibs and vanilla beans

A tasteful treatment of cacao nibs and hand-processed vanilla beans lace the golden waves of this wheatwine-style ale with a subtle savoriness reminiscent of white chocolate. Notes of coconut, honey, caramel, and vanilla intertwine seamlessly in this bourbon barrel-aged treat.

Old Notes: The primary component of our “White Oak” ale is a 100% barrel aged wheat wine that we affectionately refer to as “White Oak Sap.” Essentially a “summer” barley-wine style ale, but made with a wheat heavy grain base, White Oak Sap is aged in used bourbon barrels for nearly a year and comes out rich in flavors of coconut, honey, caramel and vanilla. To compliment the already rich flavors of the beer, we’ve added cacao nibs and vanilla beans to give this beer the delicate flavor of white chocolate…hence the name.

Hazy orange colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a sort of caramel and taste that you can associate with baked white chocolate blocks. Very sweet. Quite like caramel.

As sometimes overbearing sweet this is, I love it nonetheless, we need more wheatwine in our lives, caramel vanilla cake, definitely white chocolate vibes on the nose and throughout.

Kind of surprised. With its high score and description from this brewery I thought I was going to like it a lot more. Aromas of lots of cocoa with hints of bourbon and vanilla. Flavor is like nose adding some fruitiness. Sweet up front with a little growing bitter towards the finish along with lots of booze. Some clashing flavors in there.

Bottle @ Dangerous Bottleshares #11. Pours light hazy dark orange with a medium white head. Aromas of vanilla, white chocolate, raisins, caramel, fudge, malt, coconut, prunes, booze, grassy notes, ripe orange. Taste is sweet - expected it to be way sweeter though, white chocolate, fudge, vanilla, caramel, malt, dates, prunes, weak tannins, ripe apples, orange. Did sadly not live up to my expectations.
