440ml can. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, liqourice, big coffee, charcoal, dark chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a smooth, rich, chocolate, coffee, light vanilla, lactose palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. Black with a tan head. Great roasty aroma full of chocolate, coffee, mocha. Rather dry flavor, roasty, with light sweetness, coffee, and a bit of dark chocolate. Very nice.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [110715]
Jet black, big frothy deep tan head
Aroma of dark malts, soft mocha coffee, dab of dark toffee, mellow roast
Taste of dark fairly sweet malts, very mellow roast, mocha coffee, getting a dab of dark plain chocolate, good quality coffee, some rich malts in there, tasty
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, quite sweet, smooth texture. Finish as main flavour, rich dark malts, some dark cocoa
Overall - Decent porter - like it that the coffee roast is not overdone. Plenty of sweet dark malts offset the coffee roast, but certainly nothing like those awful chocolate box coffee creams
