Matt was inspired by Matt VandenBerghe and Matt Bonney (Bottleworks and Brouwers in Seattle), who personify the spirit and dedication that has helped craft beer become the vibrant industry it is today. This Beer was originally Brewed to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Bottleworks, and will be released every few years from the Brewery. Matt is made with two Munich malts, two Smoked malts and two types of Belgian candy sugar. It is aged in Kentucky Bourbon and Apple Eau de Vie barrels from Clear Creek distilling. Matt is deep and lush with notes of apple, chocolate and smoke.

Grabbed this at BottleWorks for $20 a bottle. 2013 vintage
A - Pours a brown to black, sort of hazy and chocolate colored. No head formed at all. Amber edges.
S - Loads of raisin and currants, Super woody, maple and birch with a touch of cedar. Vanilla and roasted milk chocolate
T - Lots of ABV to this one. You get a lot of toffee, wine tannings, grapey persimmon, kiwi, chocolate cake and pudding. Peated as all get-up
M - This coats the tongue like no other beer. Very oily and thick
O - This can definitely use a lot of age but it’s an incredible brew. try it if you can.

Intensiv malziger, sehr süßer Antrunk. Klebrig, intensiv schokoladig, etwas rauchig. Sehr süß bleibend, zum Ende auch etwas alkoholisch. Gut! 11/11/8/8//8

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy dark brown with a ring tan head. Aroma of big caramel, overripe dark fruit, raisins, tobacco, booze, toffee and massive wood. Flavor is heavy sweet, almost cloyingly so and over moderate bitterness hidden behind. Light apple coming out in the finish along with long wood. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle received in trade nicks6217. Pours very dark brown with a very small bubbly goldenish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with toasted malts, caramel, smoke, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred US oak, caramelized apples, roasted almonds, hay, bourbon, raisins, dates, bourbon, apple brandy, hazelnuts and hints of bitter chocolate. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, biscuits, smoke, vanilla fudge, roasted malts, brown sugar, apple brandy, bourbon, charred US oak, roasted coconut, raisins, prunes, dates, moist soil, dried pine needles, wet stone and hints of tummy warming alcohol. Mouthfeel is oily, round, tiny sticky sweet, tiny roasted astringent and full bodied. Finish is sweet and malty with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, bourbon, apple skins, moist soil, biscuits, apple brandy, hay, smoke and charred wood. Incredibly complex…

Bottle pour at the brewery. 2010 vintage. Heavy wood and cherry aroma with some bourbon. Really nice aged flavor with hints of cherry, apple and oak. Definitely one of the better, more unique beers I’ve had. Gotta try a newer version if I can. Very fun beer. Very well done.
