Matt was inspired by Matt VandenBerghe and Matt Bonney (Bottleworks and Brouwers in Seattle), who personify the spirit and dedication that has helped craft beer become the vibrant industry it is today. This Beer was originally Brewed to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Bottleworks, and will be released every few years from the Brewery. Matt is made with two Munich malts, two Smoked malts and two types of Belgian candy sugar. It is aged in Kentucky Bourbon and Apple Eau de Vie barrels from Clear Creek distilling. Matt is deep and lush with notes of apple, chocolate and smoke.

Bottle [from trade with cavemanlawyer, big thanks!!] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Niels. Opaque dark brown to black color, small off-white head that diminishes instantly. Aroma is malts, alcohol, honey, sweetish, sugary. Tastes about the same: malts, alcohol, honey, sweetish, sugary, perhaps a slight bitter. But it’s just not, no totally not what I had expected it to be. Quite a disappointment.

Bottle @ HotD, 2010 vintage, enjoyed three years after bottling. Is it in any way possible to fulfil the expectations following this bottle? Well, it starts very good, pouring velvety black with a nice finger thick creamy and mocha head. Aroma definitely follows in style with magnificent roasted malts with dark fruits and prunes, as well as an oaky wooden sweetness with a nice vanilla bourbon touch. Full and powerful, yet without overdoing anything. Full creamy body with soft carbonation, nicely following the velvety theme. Flavour is sweet with burned malts, muscovado, tobacco, vanilla and oak barrels, as well as cocoa and chocolate. The balanced sweet after taste finishes up all the expectations and then some.

Brown black colour, white head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, a hint of apples. Sweet flavour, wood, bourbon, chocolate and caramel. Sweet finish, vanilla, apple, sticky dates and wood. Forgot the vintage, but a great brew it is!!

Bottle. Thanks t0rin0! Murky deep brown liquid with minimal light tan head. Aroma of raw sugar, dark fruit, port wine, tobacco, peppery spice, toffee and sweet alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, toffee and raisins. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really good, complex. Awesome sweetness.

355ml bottle @ Hair of the Dog, Portland, OR

2013 vintage - Pours dark brown with a tiny head. Aroma is massively complex with loads of ripe fruits, raisins, malts, toffee, caramel, fudge, wood and vanilla. Taste is massive, heavy and sweet with lots of malts, raisins, ripe fruits, bourbon, wood, oak, vanilla, toffee and brandy. Finish is sweet, heavy and malty with nice brandy and bourbon woody notes, apples, vanilla, oak and toffee. Wow, this is quite awesome. An extremely slow sipper.

2009 Bottleworks X bottle. Pours a dark copper amber with no head. The aroma is strong smoke, oak, booze, pepper. Thin mouthfeel with flavors that just keep coming as you drink with nice apple coming through in the finish. Wow really enjoyed this one. 2010-way more smoke then the 09.

Thank you luttonm for sharing this excellence. Tested in Belgrade during an amazing private event. Too good to think about rating it right away and now it is too late to list the tons of notes and sensations this beer offers to the luckiest man who holds it. Pours very dark, some reddish appearance and practically no foam. Nose of cherries, jam of fresh European fruit, sweetness. Mouth of an amazing complexity...unique! I will never forget this beer! I will fight to have another one. luttonm THANK YOU!

12 oz. bottle. 2013 vintage. Looks dark brown without any head. Thick, syrupy sticky dark malts. Hints of bourbon.

Flavor is almost like a barley wine. Flavor is dark fruits, plums and figs, dark burnt molasses, sticky fruits and oak. Texture is on the sticky sweet side. Sweet and oaky. Nice light slap of bourbon in the finish.

Overall this is a damn fine sipper. I enjoy the bourbon underneath all dark sweet malts. Complex flavors.
