Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is boysenberry and rye. Medium mouthfeel with a strong berry upfront with the rye finish, nice and jammy. Very good.

Bottle thnx to Bobochamp Pours very black, no foam at all . Smell is sweet, red fruits, and awsome . Good carbo . WAAW . Very nice berrytaste, with an oaky background , Very very fruity, yet still heavy and mature beer . Its the perfect blend between black beer ( imperial stout ) and sweet, red fruits . AWSOME beer ! Nice and thick mouthfeel Good , low carbonation .

Aroma is dominated by tons of sweet berry character with moderate chocolate and lighter roast notes. Light bourbon and barrel character. Pours black with a thin dark mocha head that quickly recedes. No lacing and sheets, not legs of alcohol. Similar to any other BCBS. Flavor is pretty darn sweet with a ton of fresh berry notes. Moderate chocolate notes with lighter roast. Faint bourbon and barrel character but mostly just a ton of berry. Some alcohol spice, with light tart berry notes. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with low to medium low carbonation. Low but present astringency with medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty enjoyable beer with a lot of berry character but its too much berry to handle. It really overshadows the rest of the character and should be lighter.

Bottle at Max’s 30th bash. Pours black oil. Nose and taste of sweet berry, molasses, oak, rye, vanilla, bourbon and roasted chocolate goo. Some alcohol in finish. Full bodied.

Snifter pour at Three Aces. Comes to me black with a thin layer of brown head. As the description states the strong alcohol of the beer represents itself as some cool berries with lots of tart and unsweet berry. Flavor similar. The beer has the traditional very strong BCS character without the pitfalls of the style. And in this case a particularly interesting character. Just a delicious sipper.

22 oz. bottle, sent from chrisrburns (thanks a lot, Chris), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is extremely jammy, with shitloads of berries, followed by bourbon. Flavour is hugely jammy, with all kinds of berry notes, loads of jam, and some light rye notes. Totally different than the base beer - the berries steal the show. The bourbon flavour is not very prominent at all, aside from the heat. This is a jam bomb. Great variant, but nowhere close to one of the best BCS variants.

Bottle. Pours with a deep black hued body with a small tan head that is somewhat quick to fade to a ring. Some alcohol legs but not really glass coating. Aromas of bourbon and boysenberry pie. Lots of vanillin, barrel, jammy berries. Less prominent notes of soy sauce, chocolate and toasted malt. Very deep acidic and tannic berry aroma that really is a nice compliment, and something I enjoy a lot more than my memories of Bramble Rye. Flavors are of chocolate, cocoa powder and boysenberry pie. Bourbon and ash. Medium sweet that is not quite balanced out by berry acidity and berry/barrel tannins. Still quite tasty. Whiskey, also a decent amount of soy sauce. Thick and viscous body with medium carbonation and decently well hidden alcohol.

Blackberry/cranberry, tangy berry, toffee, chocolate, whiskey aroma. Quite berry fruity, blackberry, raspberry, plum, caramel, chocolate, slightly twangy, whiskey flavor. Kind of boozy and seemingly not as thick as BCS. Pretty good but a slight disappointment.

Sampled at G.I. Clybourn, Black Friday tasting event. Not much head sitting on the opaque black liquid. Nose is really a blackberry/ raspberry hybrid berry. Because it really isn’t one or the other, it must be that special mulberry they use. To give it this different berry note. It almost has a berry jam aroma. After all the berries you can smell the sweet bourbon and stout notes. Light tannic barrel notes. The flavor is the berry jam I get from the aroma with the classic BCS flavors. Vanilla oak, rich roasted malts, dark chocolate, roasted barley. Finishes on notes of vanilla and toasted oak. Its alcohol is there and will make itself known but doesn’t distract from the stout. Nice light warming after the sip. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and lower appropriate carbonation. Truly magnificent and I’m glad I have two bombers hidden in my cellar.

2013 Release, tried a few ounces at Goose Island and brought two bottles home with me.
A - Just like all of the other BCS Variants, pitch black, thick and oily.
S - Smells like sweet fruited candies. Loads of fruit on the nose but the dominant scent is blackberries with a hint of raspberry. It has a red velvet sort of nose with chocolate and sweet sugary fluff.
T - More blackberry heaven in taste. Pretty acidic like on the verge of being too much. Oreo cookies and fruit by the foot. Has a biting sweetness while being very fruity. Plum and cedar chips as well but I could be confusing the Rye taste profile with cedar.
M - Thinner than BCS but still has a sticky mouth feel.
O - Thank god this doesn’t have the medicinal / cough medicine taste of Bramble Rye. It’s a different animal like a juicy fruit filled Imperial stout with rye bite and wood chips. Just awesome.
