Bottle at home random new brewery grab but glad I did nice tart old fashion sour. Nose is fruity rhubarb and acidic lemons. Tastes of nice rhubarb, blueberry, lemon, wheat, grassy faint strawberry. Puckering for sure. Some vinegar.

Bottle thanks to Ivan. Pours a cloudy orange gold with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong rhubarb, strawberry seed, lacto, straw. Medium body, nice tartness, lacto, strawberry, light acidity, very good.

The beer is a nice medium gold with just a hint of blue or purple, an interesting not quite amber darkness to it. It’s a bit hazy. Head is small to medium in size and white. Fairly fizzy, little to no lacing. The aroma is a mixed bag for me. There is a nice but mild fruitiness and a somewhat stronger wine barrel character, which is also good. On the other hand, there’s a definite buttery quality to the beer, and there’s something not quite right about the sourness, maybe some vinegar interacting poorly with that butter flavor. Also, you get some plastic presumably from the strawberry. Bluberry flavor is light and sweet. Taste kinda loses that blueberry sweetness, unfortunately. It’s a bit harsh as it warms and more vinegar and oak come out. More of the butter flavor; whether that’s from the oak or diacetyl, I don’t know. The fruit doesn’t really work for me. It all sorta clashes and shows a lot of acidity. Some funny sweetness is in the mix, and the balance of sour and sweet isn’t working very well. Pretty strong oak. Lots of sour oaky wine flavor from the barrel, and the beer doesn’t soften that flavor much at all. Some nice fruit does show up in the finish. Tastes like rhubarb particularly. Feel is fairly harsh. Medium pucker with a lot of oak.

Bottle from Costco. It pours a light salmon color with a very small fizzy head that disappears almost instantly. The aroma jumps out as funky and acid heavy with barnyard, tart berries and very light hints of red wine vinegar. The flavor is mouthwatering with lots of berries and a complex acid profile. Lots of citric and lactic acid with faint hints of acetic that add rather than detract from the overall experience. There’s a perfect amount of Berry sweetness to offset the potent funk and sourness. The finish is dry and clean. Maybe a hint of graham cracker. Overall, an amazing sour beer. I’m so happy to see these High Water sours rounding into form!

Bottle from Capitol Beer. Pours hazy gold with a slight white head. Tart, earthy, berry aroma. Med body or so. Flavor is tart/sour, but almost sweet?, fruit with definite rhubarb. Strawberries trump blueberries. A sort of lactic bacterial thing in the fruity/earthy finsh. Quite tasty.
