This IPA refuses to be pale. In fact, it is a deep ruby red. This huge American style beer, originating from Oregon, uses West Coast hops in appropriately massive proportions, braced by a strong crystal malt backbone. Deep ruby red, earthy orange and caramel nose, sweet toffee start, peppery dark roast parsnips and a long bitter finish. This beer is a Hardknott classic and best exemplifies our American craft beer influences and our intention to shock stuffy traditionalists.

Bottle 500ml. @ ChrisOs.Clear medium to dark orange red colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, dark orange - citrus, light grapefruit, spicy hops. Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma has notes of citrusy, fruity, and dusty hops, combined with notes of caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, dust, malt, and caramel, as well as lighter notes of elderflowers, leading to a bitter finish.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange to light brown with a huge, tan and dense head. Aroma is mild brett to barnyard aroma. Herbal, brett, leathery and dry bitter flavoured. Vague fruity note. Smooth bitter and leathery finish. Malty Orval, far from the hops mentioned.

(Cask at The Rake, London Bridge, London, 21 May 2011) Dark reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with caramel, citrus and black-currant. Malty, fruity taste with notes of citrus, black-currant, caramel, red fruit and a generous bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, fairly sweet. Nice and tasty beer.

Medium offwhite head. Hazy reddish amber body with light carbonation. Strong earthy resiny aroma with tropical fruit and citrus notes. Interesting how it’s both musty and fresh. Dry-sweet intensely fruity resiny earthy taste with pineapple notes. Mid-bodied. Slightly sharp mouthfeel. Dry-sweet buttery earthy tropical fruit aftertaste with resiny lime and oranges notes. Bottle from Beermerchants, consumed 10.12.10 Pours reddy colour but with a considerable haze, the head is filmy and off-white. The nose is interesting as it seems to combine a cheesiness with an upfront citrus hop. Brisk from the off in the mouth with pine, citrus (grapefruit noted) soft in mouth, some oiled sweets, touch of sherbert and a pithiness, it’s good but not as good as the description suggested.
