This IPA refuses to be pale. In fact, it is a deep ruby red. This huge American style beer, originating from Oregon, uses West Coast hops in appropriately massive proportions, braced by a strong crystal malt backbone. Deep ruby red, earthy orange and caramel nose, sweet toffee start, peppery dark roast parsnips and a long bitter finish. This beer is a Hardknott classic and best exemplifies our American craft beer influences and our intention to shock stuffy traditionalists.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines; just breaking this beer page up with an English review. Pour dark amber with 2.5 finger off white heads loads of hop in the aroma less in the taste more heavy malts. Good beer though.

Cask at the Cask, Pimlico - 22/06/12. Dark copper/amber in colour with a small to medium white head. Fresh aromatic hop aroma with a little fruit and caramel. Dark caramel malt taste with mild hops, a little bready and bitter finish. Medium bodied with a good level of carbonation.

Cloudy amber beer, nice creamy tan head. Light dry palate. Tea like malt, a little creamy. Aromatic hops - a little grassy and with a touch of lemon and grapefruit citrus. Finishes slightly soft. Okay but doesn’t really sing.

16/05/2012 Open Baladin Roma (cask). Ambrata intensa con riflessi color miele di castagno e rubino, schiuma bianco sporca, leggermente giallognola, poco abbondante e persistente. Aroma di malto, resina, pino con note agrumate e di fruttate intense. In bocca delude tantissimo, risultando abbastanza sgraziata e con una componente di malto (caramellato) francamente eccessiva. Il finale amaro, abbastanza lungo, manca un po’ di secchezza. Corpo medio, carbonazione soft. Così così.

0.5l bottle from myBrewerytap. This is a light blurry chestnut-ruby beer with a nice medium sized lasting beige head that stick around. The aroma has caramel-sweetness, notes of both chocolate paper mixed with licorice and a subtle hoppy touch as well. Nice. It has a good hoppy bitterness all the way. Much more bitter hops than aroma hops here. Some nice toffee, malty and nutty tones as well. Well balanced between sweet and bitter. Hints of some dark berries in the finish. Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours dark, amber-red with a tight, creamy cap. Aroma holds subtle, resinous pine and herbs, light earth and caramel. Flavor is sweet with warm bread notes, toffee and caramel, pine, grapefruit, some ripe berries. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Sticky, resinous bitter finish, toasty malts and sugar, further caramel and toffee, and lasting pine. Very solid beer.
