Bottle at MC Zurich. Pours black with a medium foam. Aroma is smoked, meaty, dark ripe fruit. Body is medium, rather bitter, lively carbonation, good smoke flavours, ash and a bit of tar. Palate is rather dry, still ashy. Good! Held up well with the ageing, impressive.

The benchmark is Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen
Dark brown color with some red hue, and generous beige compact head. The aroma is mild, not fatty schinken, but woodfire instead, instinctively drier, a bit creamy. The carbonation is too high, like most beers from S&A, hence the mouthfeel is impacted, it’s smooth and dry, and just too lean; flavor of roasted malt with a touch of firewood, coal; luckily no liquorice; correct bitterness, with a dry but balanced end, although the final is a bit weak.
I prefer some residual sweetness usually, but it’s a good beer.

Bottled, thanks Bov! Near black, small but firm head. Smokey nose with light tar. Medium bodied with rounded, firm mouthfeel. Elegant rather than rustic, firm and well defined with controlled levels of smoke. Mid bitter finish.
