This extra porter is a pitch black beer with a long lasting, chestnut colored head. It has a roasted malt and licorice aroma with hints of ash and smoke, and a slightly sweet taste with notes of licorice and caramel with a sweet and bitter finish.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a huge dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with light coffee undertones. Taste is also dominated by some lightly sweet black chocolates notes, with light coffee and dry roasted malt notes. Body has a nice creamy texture with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed but though it was slightly lacking in character.

Single at the LCBO with a label that says "Mindst holdbar til 08-04-2015". Pours a real dark brown with no highlights that I can see. Big creamy light-brown head with great retention. The aromas are full of dark fruits at first (prunes, plums) but after breathing, chocolate come out with hints of vanilla. Oily and a little creamy mouthfeel with no burning. The dark fruits in the taste are well-blended with the roasted malts, coffee and even burnt wood, giving a smokey finish. A pretty well-brewed Imperial Porter.

(500mL bottle from the LCBO). Pours basically black with a big, dense head of light brown foam, some retention and lace. Aroma intense, sweet chocolate, dates, some roast/coffee, a little anise, ash. Flavour fills the palate at first, sweet/roasted malt, coffee, lightly fruity - transitioning into licorice, more roast, light coffee and becoming ashy, slight soya, a little sour/bitter. Finish is quite abrupt but a lingering ashy, dusty, almost soapy note from the roast persists on the tongue. Mouthfeel fairly full and oily for style, carb soft. Elegant, fairly rich, a nice robust porter that sticks to style rather than trying to be an imperial stout. Good stuff.
