Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av humle, karamell, rök, aska med toner av trä och tall och enbär. Sträv, fruktig, tydlig rökkaraktär, beska med smak av enbär och tallskott.

Poured from 500mL bottle [batch 432]. Murky light medium brown with dissipating beige head. Smoke, burnt wood, bitter juniper berries come through subtlety. Subdued flavour, not much of a finish.

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a caramel-amber color with an enormous foamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was smoke and bacon. The flavor was tart bread dough, wood, smoke and charcoal. Long tart wood and smoke finish. Medium body. Too smoky for me.

500 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, medium amber colour with a medium sized, off-white head. Aroma of smoke, burnt wood and malt. Flavour has notes of roasted malt and caramel leading to a dry, smokey wood finish. Medium body with oily texture and soft carbonation. Nicely done.

Rødbrun tåkete med beige skum. Lukter skog, røkt malt, syrlige epler og snus. Røkt i smaken også, noe humlebitter og salt lakris. Kort ettersmak til å være en så kraftig øl.

BOTTLE 50CL from gunnar. Thanks a lot!
Look: cloudy red-brown with a big beige-orange head.
Aroma: dusty wet ashes, berries/juniper, interesting and unusual.
Taste: ashy, sweet and dry at the same time, juniper, some toast, slightly acid. A unique and interesting beer.

Bottle at home. Pours a cloudy reddish brown colour with a medium, light beige head. Smokey aroma with smoked meat, wood, leather and forest floor. The flavour is more malty and has a sweet touch. Has a slick and rich mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A fantastic smokey and well-balanced ale.
