Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

Botella de 50 cl en Cimeria 20131123. No muy ahumada con sabor algo dulce a cebada módica con final poco amargo en el que se aprecian las bayas de junípero. Bastante recomendable De nuevo con ella en cimmeria 18-01-14 toque ahumado pronunciado al principio que va disipándose a medida que calienta. toques dulces y maltosos. Cuerpo medio con color miel y espuma beige bastante persistente. Bastante gas. Bastante buena.

Bottle - Nice smoke mellowed with dark malts. Cloudy amber with a rich active beige head. Nice mellow smoke and wood with caramel and roasted malts to round out. Very velvety on the tongue. Except for a little tartness in the finish I don’t get the juniper at all.

Bottle #4 during my miserable sunday night poker game. pours deep brown with nice nose of smoky goodness. Tastes smoky, of ham, juniper berries, lemon zest, earth, leather, and malt. interesting brew

Bottle from 2010. Aroma is fairly smokey with nice juniper note but not much malt character. Light sweet caramel note with hints of toffee. Pours a dark copper with some light brown and ruby highlights. Light tan head of moderate retention but it recedes steadily. No lacing or legs. Flavor is slightly sweet upfront but then the smoke hits to mellow out the sweetness. Light toffee and caramel notes with hints of raisin and other fruit. Juniper is light and the finish has just a hint of acidity. Light bitterness to help balance the sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency an low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer and fairly unique. The smoke and juniper are well balanced but with the age the malt character has kind of faded out. The light acidity is nice an doesn't overwhelms but instead only adds a touch of tartness in the background. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Et av mine første møter med øl dominert av røykmalt før jeg visste hva dett er, på Pingvinen i Bergen for noen år siden. Superspennende og utfordrende, men etter at den første begeistringen hadde lagt seg vokste det mer og mer i munnen på meg, og det var som å sittte midt inne i et fuktig bål. Siden den tid har jeg hatt problemer med rauchbier, selv om jeg prøver og prøver...
