In de neus valt een lichtzoete toets op - de alcohol (8 vol.% Alc) is daar niet vreemd aan - maar toch komt dit sterk bier fris over. De smaak is volmondig en prikkelend op de tong. Lichtjes zoet (maar niet plakkerig), een vleugje rijp fruit, maar vooral koffiebitter bepalen het karakter van dit bier. Ook de lange afdronk wordt door deze bitterheid overheerst.

Bottle, from City Hops. Pours clear reddish dark brown with large foamy beige head, caramel malt-fruity aroma, high carbonation, sweetish starting taste with caramel malt, dark fruits and alcohol undertones, ending medium bitter, smooth boy, long finish. Great Trappist classic.

Bière 33 cl. Couleur brune un peu claire, cuivrée. Arômes de fruits mûrs, pruneaux, fruits secs. En bouche, sucre candi, pain d'épices, boisé. Une brune trappiste qui pourrait avoir un peu plus de caractère, mais agréable.

Bottle pours out amber cola color topped with a small head. Nose is nice sweet pit fruit notes belg candy and yeast. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts light pit fruit and a little spice.

Brown hazy pour, bit of beige foam. Nose is sweet with dried fruits, Light herbal thing. Good sweetish candy sugar filled body. Simple but actually quite enjoyable. Herbal bitter was in the finish, Light tingle there.

Creamy cream coloured head stayed on very dark reddish brown still body. Lactose, malt, malt & berry aroma. Medium to full bodied, extremely smooth & silky over the tongue with a clean aft. Sweet berry, malt, toffee, demerara & licorice tastes followed by long fruity finish.

Butelka. Miedziane, lekko zmętnione, piana obfita, drobnopęcherzykowa, średniotrwała. Aromat przypieczonego chleba i na drugim planie belgijskich fenoli (przyprawy i trochę goździka), uzupełniony delikatnymi rodzynkami i karmelem oraz wyczuwalnym alkoholem. W smaku słodko, bez większych zaskoczeń. Goryczka bardzo niska, jeśli już to alkoholowa, wysycenie wysokie. Spodziewałem się więcej.

Bottle at Cambrinus, Bruges, 21/01/18. Rich chestnut brown with a decent light beige cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is malt forward, light spice, caramel, sticky toffee pudding, brown sugar melt. Taste comprises sweet malts, caramel, bread pudding, dates, fruit loaf, dried fruits, slight tangy edge. Medium plus body, fine to prickly carbonation, semi drying close. Decent Belgo strong ... holds the ABV well.
