Cask days 2016. Dark brown pour, Cloudy, with a big light brown head. Super sticky lacing, and sticky sweet Aroma. Lots of toffee, and caramel, with huge pine resin notes. Nutty, roasty, hints of coffee, boozy bread. Silky and viscous mouth feel, soft carb. Very high bitterness with huge pine resin finish. This is a big beer.

From tap at Borefts 2017. Aroma is sweetish caramel malt with ripe fruits, light hoppy notes, toffee, wet wood, raisins, and alcohol. Flavour is sweet and mildly bitter. Body is medium to full. Nice Barley Wine.

Pour from magnum bottle, 2004 bottling date. Pours dark brown with red highlights when held to the window. Beige head is on the smaller side and slowly dissipates to a fine ring. Aroma is dark fruits, anise and colas. The taste has anise, licorice, cola, raisins, walnuts and some deftly applied spices. The palate is medium in viscosity and the carbonation is soft. Finishes long and semi sweet and perhaps just a touch cloying. Overall: just lovely. This is a beer nerds beer and so I loved it. Paired well with some smoked Gouda cheese.

2006 version -aromas are lots of dark rape fruits such as figs dates and raisins, molasses and leather. A hint of floral. Flavors are sweet up front but a heavy bitter finish. Massive beer. No sign of the 10.5% ABV. A sipper for sure. Maybe overaged. --- Beer merged from original tick of Doggie Claws (2003-) on 14 Mar 2025 at 04:28

This verion i had at BeerTenple Amsterdam is trash. But I’m sure it’s old and it just tastes like stale oxidative junk. Can’t rate it well but can’t destroy it

Pours a hazy reddish brown colour with a small frothy off white head. Aroma's: funky, light sweet. Retronasal: old, sweetish, funky. Flavour is moderate sweet & bitter. Medium bodied. Above moderate bitter finish. Seems somewhat old (and it might be, as HotD recently closed).

Can't believe my eyes! Real ale in Athens in the middle of the winter. Bartender doesn't even know what real ale means! Sweetish, citrusy, caramel, toffee, alcohol, mellow, nice
