Aecht Schlenkerla Kräusen starts out as normal Helles Schlenkerla Lager and matures for months in the old rock cellars underneath the brewery. Just before filling it is blended using the before mentioned "Kräusen" technique with classic Märzen Rauchbier. The result is an unfiltered, bottom fermented and amber color Märzen Lager hybrid with a vibrant and slightly smoky flavor.

0,5 l bottle. Murky deep golden with a two finger white foamy head in the glass. Looks good. Smoke and pale grain on the nose, low citrus fruity. Taste starts grainy, increasing smoke and ham, also fruity elements in the background. Little bit earthy. Some bitterness. Higher carbonated than expected.

Draught from brouwerij lane in bruecklyn. Termed by the server as a cross between the marzen and the helles and I’d say its accurate. Very good.

Bottle shared at home. Pours deep, clear copper and thin head. Nose is faint smoke, barnyard and grains. In taste it’s “lager-like” with a smokey touch, closing with smokey finish. Light bodied with average carbo, it’s easy to drink. Bit of a meh.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is smoked pale malt, smoked sausage, minerals, bread, some caramel, more smoke, hint of fruits. Flavour is light sweet with a fairly bitter finish. Body is medium. Beautiful meeting between smoke and dry bitter mineraly Lager.

Amazed this isn't reviewed. Nose is meaty, smokey, ham, sweet, sweet malt, hint of caramel, hint of bread. Taste is smokey, meaty, leading to malt, hint of caramel and corn, a touch buttery touch of grass, and more smoke and hint of aniseed in the finish. Lovely.
