Buffalo Belgian Stout is een echte stout: donkerbruin en voorzien van een crèmekleurig schuimlaagje. De geur varieert van kruidig, over biscuit en alcoholzoet naar fruit. De smaak van dit bier van 9% abv verhoudt zich mooi tussen zoet en koffiebitter. De afdronk houdt vast aan koffietoetsen en vloeit zoet uit.

Black, big off white head. Aroma of roasted malt. Flavor of malt, nuts, raisins, plums. Very subtle and complex mix of flavors. Smooth bitter finish. Not overwhelming or in your face like American stouts. A winner.

This is one of my favorite Belgians, I’ve had it many times and it never dissapoints. Although it’s marketed as a stout I think this is more of a dark Brune. Dark cadi sugar and burnt carmel with a solid amount of bitterness. Very good!

Bottled. Very deep rubyish amber colour with brown mediumsized head. Arima is malts, soma sour fruits, spices and mild notes of plum. Flavour is mildly roasted malts with some fruity notes. Aftertaste is a nice mix of nuts, caramel and quite strong notes of roasted malts. Rather sweet, otherwise very pleasant.

(3/6/08) Bottle at Kaffee de Hopduvel in Ghent. Dark brown to black, bot opaque, with a medium beige head. Aroma of some roasted malt and yeast. A rather sweet flavor with some roastiness, notes of yeast and a drier finish. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Draught @ Zythos Bier Festival 2008, Sint Niklaas, Belgium. Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (010308)

ZBF2008: From tap. Pours dark brown to black with a dense tan head. Spiced and roasted malt aroma. Flavour is spiced, annis seed, light coffee note and a smooth chocolate note into the finish. Ends with a smooth mouthfeel and a light lingering annis seed flavour.

Bottled. Hazy dark color, medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, hint of chocolat, hop, some candy sugar. Sweet milky stout, hint of toffee. As the name says, it’s a belgian stout, and they usually do not resemble an english or american type of stout, but lean towards an abbey double.

On tap at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore during their Belgian fest. Let me say I hate beers that call themselves one thing when they’re obviously another. Pours a translucent deep brownish black with a white head that faded fast. Smells of smoked malt, yeast and wheat (nothing like a true stout). Flavor is smoked malt and wheat (nothing roasted like a true stout). Sour, funky finish (not at all like a stout). Just call this beer a dunkel and get on with it. Either way, stout or dunkel, this missed the mark.

Draught, Stumbling Monk
Dark brown, no head. Toasty nose with slight cherry. Sweet, simple chocolate palate. A bit of oiliness detracts from the mouthfeel. Weird stout, no sense of purpose that I could figure out. Just not a beer brewed for my tastebuds I guess.
