A special twist on the Finnish style Sahti, brewed at Nøgne Ø in cooperation between Dugges Brewery, Sweden, and Nøgne Ø of Norway. Brewed with rye and wheat, sea wormwood from the Swedish archipelago, juniper twigs from the Norwegian forests, honey from heather flowers in Telemark and three selected yeast strains from Belgium, Germany and Britain, and of course, some malt and hops too.

Cloudy amber color. The aroma has some spices, herbs, perfume, wax, Indian incense. Good body structure, with malt and caramel flavo, perfumy, quite bitter. Pretty good.

Bottled at Sorbon, Stockholm. hazy amber, minima head. Honeyish nose. Sweet with clean mouthfeel. No sahti-characterics at all, more leaning towards a Belgian tripel, but dripping with honey. The juniper can be discerned, but barely. Sweeter and tougher to drink than sahti - lacks all the rustic refreshing qualities. Instead it’s hard and tries to be cool and elegant like a snobby upper class lady. I’m surprised they can call it sahti - thught that was a protected name in EU?

(Bottle at Den Gode Nabo, Trondheim, on 2009-02-17) Amber and hazy. Medium sized and quite quickly disappearing white head. Juniper and honey in aroma. Full bodied and bit sharp palate with lot of carbonation. Juniper, honey, frutiness, bitterness, malts and sweetness in taste. Honey and bitterness in aftertaste. Good beer and but not a sahti so I wonder why it’s called as sahti.

500ml bottle provided by Yngwie three months ago. Foggy, amber body topped by a medium white head. Aroma of smooth honey with modest vapour of alcohol beneath. After three months in my cellar the taste has developed to a nice, rounded honey flavour supported by spices and hoppy fruits. Weak bitter finish. Warming and full to medium bodied. I also shared a bottle at Bar & Cigar in Oslo in January with a more dominant and too sweet flavour of dark honey. Looking forward to the next bottle. (shared at Finns, Tromsø 18.02.2009).

Bottle 0,5l shared with Rune. Unclear. Golden apricot colored. An OK creamy head that lasted a few minutes. Honey is the underlying impression all the way - but not offensive. Sweet aroma. Some spicy and fruity hints. Well balanced. A bit unvaried but a sourish bite in the finish. Surprisingly easy to drink. Alcohol dangerously well hidden. OK winter warmer. KI=5.

500 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a big and foamy off-white head. Aroma is malty with a hint of spices, but dominated by a nice honey fume. Flavor is sweet malty, bitter, juniper and heather honey with a hint of warming alcohol in the background. When I tasted this first time it was totally fresh and the honey flavor was a bit to dominating for my taste, but now I find in much more balanced. The honey is flavor is now one flavor togheter with juniper and the some other spices. The alcohol is dangerously well hidden. It’s a surprisingly different beer, not recognized as the Nøgne Ø signature. And I believe that was something I hoped for when knowing NØ and Dugges want to do their own version of a Sahti.

Big offwhite head. Hazy opaqueish yellow body with slow carbonation. Fruity plastic honey aroma with floral wooden notes. Highly unusual, as expected. Dry-sweet alcoholic honey taste with fruity Belgian soft metallic notes. Dry herbal wooden juniper and plastic aftertaste with honey notes. Some alcohol heat lingers. Light body, fresh mouthfeel. Not like any other beer Ive had, and nothing like Finnish sahti. Very interesting. (0.5l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.)

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub and Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11 percent. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy and honeyish, with a big off-white head. Very nice aroma of juniper, heather honey and hops. The mouthfeel is rich, warming and alcoholic. The flavour has loads of honey, perhaps too much, and malty sweetness. Notes of juniper too, very moderate bitterness. Interesting, but too sweet. A fairly nice sipping beer all the same.
